We had the good fortune of connecting with Eldred Pierre Singletary Jr. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eldred Pierre, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Uncle El was started based on a group of friends who believed in my product and me. They motivated me and made me believe that Uncle El could go far. I believe life can be so simple at times when you have a great support system. Sometimes you don’t realize your potential until someone else does.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a creative who wakes up every morning, ready to see what the day can bring. Entrepnuereship isn’t always guaranteed, not always promised. So when you wake up in the morning, knowing there are great possibilities, anything is possible. That’s what I simply live for. The process is a reward for me. I started a few years ago as a music producer. Producing for multiple TV Networks/Shows. Music is my passion but things in life got in the way. Uncle El is my fresh start. My way into another realm.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The greatest city in the world, Detroit has many great food locations and adventurous things to do. We’d start our day at a breakfast spot called Kuzzo’s Chicken & Waffles off Livernois Ave, Detroit. Really good food. Next, of course, we’d do some shopping!! Who doesn’t love shopping?? Some of my favorite stores in the city are Burn Rubber Sneaker Boutique, C.R.E.A.M Blends, and 218 Sneaker Store. By this time it’s time to eat again, right? A childhood favorite restaurant of mine called, Beans and Cornbread, would set the day off. Great soul food restaurant. Great restaurant for Uncle El to be in!!!! I love museums so we would HAVE to hit Motown Museum, Charles H Wright Museum of African American History, and Museum of Contemporary Art. Top the night off downtown at a bar/restaurant called Cadieux Cafe and Cliff Bells for good food and great live music. If we’re feeling the night we’d stop at Floods Bar & Grille.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to most importantly thank my late grandmother, Joncie SIngletary, who co-produced Uncle El. Her love and spirit will live forever through me and Uncle El. I’d like to also thank my great friend, Chelsea West who motivated me to start Uncle El. Chelsea has a way of lighting a spark inside you that you’re just waiting for to burst. Thank you, Chelsea! Last but not least I’d like to thank my entire family. Their support and love are what kept me standing strong and believing that anything is possible. Find you a great support system. Those are the ones that deserve all the credit.
