We had the good fortune of connecting with El Uno Mas Takuri and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi El Uno Mas, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
As a foreigner from Ecuador who couldn’t speak English, I would skip through channels trying to find something I could understand. Wrestling was the first thing I could understand. I would put on wwf on television. Sometimes my family would join me in watching it. My dad, my mom, my sister eventually my brothers. One day I was at a flea market with my dad and we saw a live lucha libre show and that’s when I knew. This is what I want to do. Something that could allow people to connect regardless of language or culture. Just wrestling.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am El Luchador from Ecuador probably the only one in the south east. Lucha Libre being a primarily Mexican art has fascinated me. Originally I was going to debut in a mask but the luchadors I met on my journey told me to be a “true Luchador”, I had to be Mexican born and take a license test in Mexico. So being an outcast Luchador I persued my own journey. I trained for years and eventually created the Uno Mas Vida/lifestyle. As someone who made mistakes and spent time behind bars I thought my journey to success was over. I needed just one more chance in life (uno mas). So I found trainers, I pushed myself, I did my best to motivate those who I meet along the way. It hasn’t been an easy journey. w When covid happened & my dad passed, those are some of the moments when I wanted to give up. Luckily I had people in my life that kept me going and pulled me out of despair and kept pushing me to reach my dreams. They are the only reason I’m still here. Gracias, Te quiero!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My best bud, Tweenkie, from Chicago is visiting I would love to show him some of the top locations in Georgia that I know off. Have am amazing lunch on the Select in Sandy Springs, definitely try the chicken. Then possibly a lite hike hike at some of the amazing hiking trails in Georgia. One of my favorite being blood mountain the highest altitude location in Georgia. And an amazing dinner ar Marcel, their beef wellington requires a 24 heads up, but it’s totally worth it. Also the shrimp scampi is to die for. Finally finish with cocktails at the Blind Pig Parlour, my favorite speak easy.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My journey to become a Luchador hasn’t been easy. I stumbled many times early in my life. Had some troubles with the law many times. I knew I had to leave Chicago. I found a new home in Atlanta, Georgia. Where I found my second home in WWA4. That’s where I meet AR Fox. He mentored me along many other students. Some who have reached, WWE, AEW, MLW, etc. His guidance helped increase my physical fitness and knowledge in wrestling. It else helped increase my confidence, and self imagine. Anytime I thought about quitting he was there to remind that success takes time. People will stumble but rising back up is just part of the journey. I also have an amazing partner, whos accountet skills has helped keep my finances in check. I wouldn’t be able to do it without her.
There’s also one friend I’ve made on my journey who I am very grateful to hate.
