We had the good fortune of connecting with Eboni Jae and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eboni, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In January 2023, I made the pivotal decision to leave a dead-end job that didn’t align with the direction I wanted for my life. Despite my time and efforts, I felt that job was never truly the right fit for me. By March, I transitioned into a new role working from home, which I enjoyed. However, in September 2023, I faced an unexpected layoff. It felt like a series of trials, and I struggled to understand why 2023 had been so challenging career-wise. This period of uncertainty made me realize that my resistance to change and reluctance to fully embrace my potential were holding me back.

With this newfound clarity, I recognized that I had been playing it safe for too long. The layoff gave me the courage to finally pick up the pieces and build a life that truly aligns with my most authentic passions and dreams. I purchased my first camera, enrolled in a MBA program, and launched my business, Hampton Creative Media. My thought process was driven by the desire to create something meaningful and impactful—helping small businesses and entrepreneurs through consulting and events like “Small Business Connect.” My goal was not just to establish a business but to build a platform that amplifies underrepresented voices and supports the community. This shift allowed me to focus on what truly makes me happy and to create a positive impact in ways that align with my core values and aspirations.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art and creative work are deeply rooted in my personal journey of overcoming challenges and defying expectations. What sets me apart is the fusion of my diverse experiences—from being a small-town girl with big dreams to navigating the complexities of the media and entertainment industry. My work is not just about creating content; it’s about using my platform to empower and uplift underrepresented voices, particularly in the realms of creative media and entrepreneurship.

One of the things I’m most proud of is how I’ve leveraged my experiences to build Hampton Creative Media. This venture is not just a business—it’s a platform designed to support small businesses and entrepreneurs through consulting and events like “Small Business Connect.” I’m excited about the impact we’re making, particularly in providing resources and amplifying voices that might otherwise go unheard. Additionally, my upcoming documentary on Black Queer Elders in the South is a project I’m incredibly passionate about. It represents a significant step in documenting and celebrating stories that deserve to be told.

My professional journey hasn’t been easy. I faced numerous challenges, including a career setback when I was unexpectedly laid off in September 2023. Initially, it felt like a series of trials, and I struggled with the uncertainty. However, this period was transformative. I realized that my resistance to change was holding me back and that it was time to take a chance on myself. I picked up my first camera, pursued an MBA, and started my business. Overcoming these obstacles taught me the value of resilience, adaptability, and the importance of following my passions even when the path isn’t clear.

The key lessons I’ve learned along the way include the importance of embracing change, staying true to my purpose, and recognizing that success is a journey, not a destination. I’ve learned to focus on what truly makes me happy and to build a life and career that align with my values and dreams.

What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that we are dedicated to creating meaningful impact and fostering growth in our communities. Hampton Creative Media is not just about personal success; it’s about using our platform to support and elevate others. My story is one of resilience, passion, and the unwavering belief that boundaries are meant to be pushed. I hope to inspire others to follow their own dreams, overcome their own challenges, and find joy and fulfillment in their journeys.
