We had the good fortune of connecting with Ebonee Copeland and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ebonee, what do you want people to remember about you?
I aspire my legacy to be that I am remembered as a person who had some kind of positive impact on people’s lives. Whether it is family, friends, business associates, or even strangers, I aspire to be the person who inspired someone to be ambitious and dedicated to bringing forth and manifesting their dreams in life. I am fully aware of the power and significance for of being an influential individual who shows through actions that it is possible to achieve anything they desire to. I, myself have watched others and been inspired by their drive and determination where I was able to witness them evolving into being the best versions of themselves. As the saying goes, “actions speak louder than words. I know that I have people who are watching and praying for my success, and that is what pushes me to strive to move forward.
In particular I want my legacy to be one that especially resonates with my children. I have always tried to show them that hard work will always propel you in to a higher level of what ever you are trying to accomplish. They have watched me work full time, be in school full time while completing my degrees and taking care of them. Even with all of my current endeavors as a non profit founder, being on the city council, and working, they are able to see first hand that it is possible with hard work, determination, and a good support system.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am currently an Auditor for the Jefferson County Revenue Department. I also am a City Council member in Center Point, Alabama. I became one of the first black women elected to the council in August 2020. I am a Mortgage Loan Originator for First Choice Mortgage, where I am licensed in Alabama, and waiting for license approval in Georgia. It took years of hard work to get where I am today professionally. I obtained my Associate’s Degree in Small Business Management, Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Entrepreneurship, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Public Administration. It wasn’t an easy road trying to complete my degrees and work full time while raising my children. I just knew it had to be done in order for me to be able to get to the level that I wanted to be at professionally. I want people to know that it’s important to be resourceful and find a path that works for them. It’s important to take action and never give up on their ambitions. It’s important to know that your path might not look the same as others, but continue on with it anyway. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would definitely like to give a shoutout to my husband and family for their unwavering support in all my endeavors. I would also like to give a shoutout to any civil service individual, other non profit organizations, entrepreneurs, and any other individual who tirelessly gives back to their communities. It’s individuals like them who inspire me to do what I can.
