We had the good fortune of connecting with Dylon Ramsey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dylon, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
Hey, my name is Dylon Ramsey and I am a 24 y/o multi-media artist from Rome, Ga. I was raised in a single-parent household by my Mom who has frequently been in/out of the hospital due to cancer and many underlying illnesses/surgeries. Though her health conditions and all of life’s challenges were a lot, they were not enough to stop her from working relentlessly to make sure my siblings and I had a roof over our head and food to eat. After everything she’s been through, she continues to not only give her all to the world, she tries to help out others any chance she gets, despite being informed by doctors over 12 years ago that she only had half a year left to live. She truly is my inspiration and not only did she teach me to be persistent in chasing my goals, but to use to the talents I’ve been blessed with to give back and touch the lives of my community.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Sure, so I like to create abstract faces. I like to use a lot of vibrant colors in my work to play off the theme of my brand, Radiance. Although I use a lot of bright colors, I also like to include some dark elements to highlight the fact that there’s always the ‘dark’ that comes with the ‘light’. I’ve been told that my art allows the viewer to get a more detailed look and feeling of my inner world. I just hope that whenever you see the brand or my art it inspires you to live a more ‘Radiant’ life full of creating, while encouraging you to accept the negative aspects that come with life.
It hasn’t been easy to get to where I am today, there’s been many ups and downs that I’ve experienced as a creator. Though I haven’t been an artist for much longer than a year, I’m proud of myself for consistently creating art day in and day out. I’m excited to share some of these projects, characters, and concepts I have developing for Radiance and these partnerships/collaborations I have been working on with other brands.
A lesson I’ve been learning is to be more intentional with my time and my energy- to make sure I’m always working towards my goals.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first event that comes to mind is Bonfire Atl. Bonfire has an indie, underground vibe to it and they always have music artists performing, dope vendors selling anything from food to merch to crystals, and even live painters! ( I paint live some Sundays)
Little Five Points, Piedmont Park, Old Fourth Ward and Krog Street Tunnel would probably be some spots I would take them to walk around.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shoutout to EVERYONE who has supported me this past year, especially since this was my first year creating as an artist. If it weren’t for y’alls support/interest in my art, I don’t think I would have ever pursued this career seriously.
I’d like to give an exclusive shoutout to my siblings as well. My older sister is one of my best friends, and honestly like a second mom at times. Growing up, she would step up to help care and provide for me and my brother. She currently operates a beauty salon with my mom, while building her own brand Wigs 4 Warriors.
My brother is the second person I’d like to give a shoutout to. He is also an artist, though he focuses mainly on creating music. He’s been writing music for years now and has been a major influence on my journey as an artist. He will be dropping his debut album this year.
I’d also like to give a shoutout to my cousin Pat, he’s been helping me out a lot behind the scenes.
