We had the good fortune of connecting with Dupree and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dupree, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
In the past, I’ve always needed a little extra guidance when it comes to finding balance in my life. I have more responsibilities now more than ever executing dual careers, and that guidance is utilized now more than over. As a teen, my father would encourage me to focus on my grades, but to not forget about my social life. As an adult, I still hear my fathers voice reminding me to make time for my family friends, anytime I find myself overworked. As an artist and actor, I’m thankful to have the support of my management to help me find balance between acting and music. I think of balance as a lining or thread in a person’s destiny. Similar to the lining of a dress. If the lining is warped or out of place, then the fabric in the dress is altered or damaged. If the balance between your work and personal lives is off, then it will eventually lead to the demise of one of the two, if not both.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m someone who can do it all. I can sing, write, dance, and act exceptionally well. What makes me different from my peers is my natural ability to remain authentically me no matter what aspect of the industry I’m in. Dupree the artist is the same as Dupree the actor. I write all of my music, and I style all of my shoots. I’m open to new ideas and concepts from my team but at the end of the day I’m blessed to be the one to have the final say in all my creative projects. My songs are excerpts from my life that anyone can relate to. The emotions you see in the roles I portray are raw and are drawn from life experiences and audiences can pick up on that. I want the world to know that what you see is what you get, but trust you gone see some dope, real, and creative shit.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta is my home away from home. I’ve been there three times in the past year alone. Because Chicago is all the way up north, we ain’t got no Waffle House, so I always go to the one right by the skyview. I’m also a big fan of Xscape so I always hit up Old Lady Gang of Peters Street. Although Atlantas food isn’t as good as Chicagos, it definitely has a more lit nightlife. When I’m in the mood to go out (which is rare) I like to hit up Friends on Ponce. Bulldogs in Midtown is decent too.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Nobody can make it without a support system. It takes a village to raise a child, but it takes a city to have a successful career. If I thanked every person who contributed to the success I have today, I’d take up the entire magazine. I’d like to start by thanking my family for always keeping it real and consistent. Blessed to not have a family full of negative energy. I’d also like to thank Jroberts Management for becoming a source of guidance, love and authenticity in the industry. The Achilles Hill to any artist career is a management team full of Yes-Men, and that is the opposite of what my team is.
