We had the good fortune of connecting with Drew Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Drew, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is my faith. I started out with nothing and all I had was myself, my thinking and my faith. Also me keeping a positive attitude with positive energy has gotten me to where I am now and it takes effort to gain and keep all of 3. It takes effort to have faith and effort being able to keep the faith. It takes effort to be positive and to stay positive even when people or things can be negative at times.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am currently a Lowe’s Home Improvement sales associate / Sales specialist associate. I enjoy working at Lowe’s. This will be my second year there and what I like about it is that my job allows me to speak to customers about their needs to find the right product to help improve their homes. With doing so I think that allows me to build character about myself and give people a little to see about my personality and character. I gain a lot of professional characteristics while working here, which I use in my every day life. So I think working at Lowe’s has helped me build a lot professional characteristics that will help me in the long run.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spot in the city is the Ponce City Market, where you can do just about anything. From eating and shopping to enjoying the view on the rooftop all at once. The people around the market sometimes are most likely not from the area. That’s how lovely the place is. There are people and families from all over that visit the Ponce City Market just to take pictures, shop or just to say that they’ve went and they had a great time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Over the past few years, I’ve met a lot of people along the way and have also connected with some amazing people too. I just want to shout out my mentor “Rashaad A. Bettis”. This guy is an amazing role model and mentor. I’ve known Rashaad for about 4 years now and we are still continuously talking and growing throughout our friendship. He played a big role into my path of becoming a mentor. I’ve had the passion to become a mentor every since I was a kid and he helped me push myself into that role. Now that I am a mentor myself, I reflect back over conversations that me and Rashaad had to help me with my students in conversations that we’re having.
