We had the good fortune of connecting with Drew Beskin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Drew, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I don’t really look at it as a career. Songwriting, recording, performing, artist management is something I have always been invested in because I am a fan first and it is something I would be doing alone in my bedroom if I didn’t have any sort of outlet or community to work with. It is something I would have to do no matter what. I don’t really have a choice in the matter. I am fortunate to be able to immersed with other creatives and artists who I admire.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am releasing an album called “Somewhere Sideways Same As You” by my band Drew Beskin & The Sunshine. It is technically my 4th “solo” album but my first with my new backing band, The Sunshine, made up of my friends Tommy Trautwein, Elijah Johnston and Gideon Johnston. I previously fronted the bands The District Attorneys, Party Dolls, and PURSES. Im also a member of Tedo Stone. I have a few fun tribute bands BROASIS (Oasis tribute) and Sunshine Beatles (Beatles tribute). This new record of mine in my mind is the best album I have made and I have been releasing music for over 13 years. Getting more comfortable in my skin as a writer and performer and in the studio. These new songs mean a lot to me and I think they can resonate with anyone.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Tommy Trautwein. He is a musician/producer/engineer out of Athens. He has his own label called We Bought A Zoo Records. He is responsible for records by Hotel Fiction, Elijah Johnston, Zac Crook and his own band, Well Kept, to name a few. He also performs in Wanderwild and Heffner occasionally. He is a major part of the Athens music scene because of his musical talents and how genuinely great of a human being he is. I cannot say enough great things about Mr. Trautwein. We will all be working for him one day.
