We had the good fortune of connecting with Dre Day and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dre, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
A quote that stuck out to me and I believe is “open doors you don’t mind leaving open for someone else. It means everything. Our community doesn’t believe in that often. Most times we have to show we made it out and others need to find their own way out. I just love to help.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The business that I currently have that has given me the opportunity to build and change the culture I’m my community and hopefully the world is called Song4Song Music. Song4Song is the name it’s known of around our town. Song4Song is a platform that gives the overlooked underdog musician a kick start to getting their career in the right direction. I think the main thing that sets me apart from anyone lending a hand or building a brand is that I do it because I love helping others wholeheartedly with no gimmicks are motive. I love the fact that I’m able to see the joy and how much I impact peoples lives and they show me mad love in return. Almost like your favorite teacher in school. It makes me proud to see the results. I was able to reach the level I’m at today by having a pure heart and great mentors along the way. They have helped me so much once I decide what direction I wanted to go in. I had never done an event before but I had studied for years before trying and learned what the needs of the people, took my ideas to those who could help me structure it (s/o my homie Bambi at NSpire U on Air). The process was easy because my heart had been pure. The event planning and structure was easy because those relationships with the right people over the years it all fell into place. The biggest lessons I have learned on this journey is that when you make a positive impact in a crowded field not everyone will believe in you as a trailblazer but they see you as an enemy and I hate that the most. I have also learned not everyone will take the help you provide and apply it they will still waste their time and talents and that sucks. I just want the world and music industry to know that I’m pure hearted, hard working, a husband, a father and I hustler and the ultimate creator. I also want people to know this platform can help any local music scene transform your music community world wide.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well first I would tell them best time of year to come visit my city of Mobile, AL is Mardi Gras time. Nothing in Alabama beats Mardi Gras. We have the best time to meet everyone and catch up with family and friends. It’s too many places to eat in town but our seafood and bbq. My city is small but impactful. I love going to the studio and catch vibes. Any local music event I’m their because we have dope talent all around. You definitely want to tour downtown though because it has such a rich history and a lot of historical monuments still stand to this day. Honestly you want a frat meal I have a catering company call Dru’s Kitchen & Catering. We travel a lot around here because it’s not so much to do but that’s been changing, but nothing I mean nothing beats Mardi Gras. That’s simple haha.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my grandparents. My grandparents were so loved by our community that it deeply impacted who I wanted to be today. My grandfather had a local lake named in his honor and that day that happened I was super inspired and I wanted to leave that kind of impact on my city, community and the world. Granddad and grandma I hope I’m making you guys proud.
