We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr Shameka Pointer, PhD, Cams, HtP and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr Shameka, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Believing in myself would be the most important because if you have doubt and fear about stepping away from a 9-5 it will be very uncomfortable and hard .
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
For the most part my Counseling Practice is different because the mission stands alone and speaks for itself ” HELPING OTHERS WITH A OPEN HEART”. It takes courage and strength to hear the different situations I hear and be able to give sound advice with an open Heart… Courage and Tenacity got me where I am today and having the mindset to not give up. The lessons I have learned is your support will be very limited, very few will believe in you and your vision but you have to know that you can do ALL THINGS thru Christ (Phillipians 4:13)… Open Heart Counseling Services Inc will be well known and in multiple locations soon.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to The Aquarium in Atlanta. It is very interesting and I love the calmness it has and the information they give about each animal.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Well I’m going to be quite Blount now. The only person I feel deserves a shout out is The Almighty God. He has guided me thru every step of my life and success. So, He deserves ALL the praise..
