We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Roxanne Dixon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Roxanne, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I come from a family of entrepreneurs; so, starting my own business is in my blood. However, I never thought that my business would be a ministry. Never in a million years would I have thought I would be launching a ministry that encourages people to be the true authentic version of themselves.

It was only when I came to a place of unmuting myself and using my voice to be a public speaker, minister, and teacher that I realized there are so many people that are afraid to use their voice and operate in their purpose. From there, I wrote a book “BE FREE BE YOU 21 Letters to a Beautiful and Godly Lady” and began to use that platform to minister about being our authentic true selves. Daily, I received messages from people saying that for a long time they have wanted to launch a business, a book, or whatever; but they didn’t because of fear. However, after hearing my story and my words of encouragement they were now ready to take the first step. The stories both resonated with me and confirmed what God had already spoken to me about my ministry. It was now a no brainer to start the “BE FREE BE YOU Movement” that provides Mindset Coaching, Motivational Speaking, and Workshops.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The BE FREE BE YOU Movement is created to INTERRUPT a mindset of defeat, INSPIRE a life of purpose, and IGNITE a spirit of victory. The BFBY Movement is tailored to everyone that is ready to walk freely in who God has called and anointed them to be. God is in the MOVEMENT!

The BFBY Movement was birthed from my book “BE FREE BE YOU 21 Letters to a Beautiful and Godly Lady.” Initially, I thought the outcome was about writing the book; but, I learned that it was not about writing the book. It was about trusting God throughout the process. Having the doubts, fears, and worries that we conjure up in our mind regarding judgement, ridicule, and failure a lot of times stops us from completing our goals and fulfilling our purpose. However, writing the book despite all of the thoughts in my head and hearing the testimony of so many people saying they understood what I was saying confirmed that I did what I was supposed to do.

Walking in faith has led me to amazing people that have provided me with so much insight on how to capture my brand and operate in my business. Having a village of like-minded and successful people has been the catalyst for me branching out and wanting to do more. So, from the book launch a year ago until currently, I have started the BE FREE BE YOU MOVEMENT, been a guest speaker internationally, and started the BE FREE BE YOU Coaching business.

Has it been easy? Absolutely not. So many times I wanted to quit and so many times I questioned is this what I am supposed to be doing. But God. Each and every time I doubt myself God sends someone that says they needed the motivation to keep going. Those are the testimonies that keep me fueled and keep me inspired. The biggest lesson I have learned thus far is that I am my greatest obstacle and once I overcame that hurdle, the road became easier and the path became clearer. The other lesson I learned was that my only competition is myself. Each and every day my goal is to be better than I was the day before.

My ultimate goal in life is to reach as many people as I can and inform them that God created them for purpose. It is all about knowing who you are and whose you are. Regardless of failures, mistakes, rejections, or hurts it all can be used for God’s glory. We have made mistakes; but, we are not mistakes. The BE FREE BE YOU Movement is to assist people to have a mindset of victory knowing that God has created us in His image and likeness; therefore, there is no failure in us. We only fail if we don’t start. God is in the Movement!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am such a homebody, LOL, my friends know that I don’t hang out like I used to. However, to get out of the house, I would definitely take them to Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen for dinner. One of my other favorite spots is Chateau Elan for a great spa day and wine tasting. If there is a good outdoor concert, we would attend that and have a great day of shopping. I am a big believer in quality time; so, one night will be spent at home making dinner and catching up. To end the week, we would attend a great church service and have some great Hibachi at Tokyo Hibachi Express.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shout out specifically to my husband, Anthony Dixon and my daughter, Nia Burke. Both of them are very instrumental in supporting me on this journey by constantly encouraging me, loving me, and being my voice of reason when things get rough. Additionally, I would like to acknowledge my Circle of Support that shows up every time I speak, create, cry, and need prayer. Their commitment to me and my journey has been the wind beneath my wings to keep pressing forward.
