We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Pamela Gurley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Pamela, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I am of the belief that in order to succeed, you have to take risks. There is no way around it and it has certainly played a significant role in my life and career. I also think that taking risks is about betting on yourself by not only trusting your gut instinct but acting on it. I have stepped away from the comfort of a salary to work for myself, have said no to business opportunities (not all money is good money), and have said yes to opportunities that I was fearful to do but was lead to do. Again, if I am not able to bet on myself, I would not want anyone else to. So, I bet on myself ALL the time.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the founder and CEO/Founder of Clark and Hill Enterprise, which is a business planning and strategy firm. Clark and Hill Enterprise provides technical and business writing services to new and existing small businesses. With over 25 years of experience, we are professional experts on business development, business planning, and content writing. We also offer small business services as well. Essentially, our focus is to create an attainable business foundation to maximize the potential for long-term growth and success. After three and a half years in business, Clark and Hill Enterprise has undergone major infrastructure changes over the past month. We have not only refaced the website but also automated business operations to make all of the services more transparent to meet client needs. We have also added additional small business services like media branding writing and notary services and will be adding business masterclasses in the coming months. I am super proud of its growth and evolution.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh my goodness, this is so hard since I am a die-hard foodie (which has been really hard with COVID). Because I live in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area, I would definitely take my best friend to the African American Museum, Martin Luther King, Jr Monument, and Washington Monument. Places are endless and so is the nightlife. From Top Golf to Throw Social, places to hangout are easy to find. I would eat and happy hour at Dirty Habit DC, Yard House, Proper 21, and/or Fig and Olive. For some of the best food, I would take her to Cranes, 2941 Restuarant, Zaytinya, La Chaumiere, and Mad Chef.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shout-out to my mom and my sisters. They are my consistent motivation and my biggest supporters. Outside of that, my list is very long, as I am intentional about my energy and growth. I also know the importance of networking for growth. My list is endless (and quite honestly it should be as I continue to grow).
