We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Noel Moya, PhD and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Noel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My journey toward starting delphistem originates from a deeply personal and professional intersection. Growing up in Cuba within a family of medical doctors, I initially pursued a path in medicine, enrolling in medical school at a young age. However, due to the political circumstances in Cuba, my family and I sought to leave the country for Miami, Florida, where I had to restart my education.

In my pursuit of higher education, I discovered my passion for genetics while studying biology at the State University of New York in Buffalo. This fascination with genetics led me into stem cell research in San Diego, California, where I worked with esteemed institutions such as the Salk Institute, University of California San Diego, and Scripps. Subsequently, I embarked on a research journey culminating in a PhD in stem cell differentiation toward pancreatic islets at the Ludwig Maximilian University – Helmholtz Zentrum in Munich, Germany, where I graduated with honors, Magna Cum Laude.

During this time, tragedy struck my family when my father was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer. His battle and eventual passing served as a catalyst for me, highlighting the gap between scientific research and medical practice. It was a sad but pivotal moment that inspired me to bridge this gap and translate innovative biomedical technologies into accessible solutions for people, aiming to reduce the occurrence of late cancer diagnoses as much as possible.

Returning to the United States, I immersed myself in groundbreaking research at Emory University, focusing on differentiating human stem cells towards cardiac cells for multiple applications. However, my unwavering commitment to democratizing biomedical advancements ultimately led me to co-found delphistem.

As CEO and Chief Science Officer, I am driven by a vision to make stem cell technology accessible and transformative for individuals worldwide. Through delphistem, I aspire to redefine healthcare paradigms, empowering individuals with a preventive and personalized approach to medicine, leading to healthy longevity.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At delphistem, we’re pioneering a revolutionary approach to stem cell storage, making life-saving technology directly accessible to individuals. What sets us apart is our commitment to democratizing access to stem cell technology, empowering individuals to take control of their health and well-being.

We take immense pride in being the first stem cell storage company to offer innovative solutions directly to end consumers. Our process is simple, non-invasive, and affordable, ensuring that anyone can benefit from the potential of stem cell technology. By reprogramming urine cells into stem cells and providing cryostorage for future use, we’re offering a proactive approach to health care that was previously only available in academic and research settings.

Our journey to where we are today hasn’t been easy, but it has been incredibly rewarding. We’ve faced challenges along the way, from navigating regulatory hurdles to securing funding for our research and development efforts. However, through perseverance, innovation, and a steadfast commitment to our mission, we’ve overcome these obstacles and emerged stronger than ever.

One of the most important lessons we’ve learned is the power of collaboration and community. By forging partnerships with medical professionals, research institutions, and other stakeholders, we’ve been able to leverage collective expertise and resources to drive innovation and progress in our field.

Looking ahead, our vision is clear: we want to revolutionize the future of healthcare by making stem cell technology accessible to everyone. We envision a world where individuals have the tools and resources they need to proactively manage their health and well-being, leading to longer, healthier lives for all.

In summary, delphistem is more than just a company – we’re a catalyst for change in the healthcare industry. We’re proud of our accomplishments thus far and excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’d probably start with a walk through Piedmont Park, enjoying the greenery and skyline views. Then, we’d dive into Atlanta’s rich history and art scene with visits to the High Museum of Art and the Atlanta History Center. For dining, we’d explore the diverse culinary offerings, from traditional Southern fare to international cuisine, with stops at local favorites like Ponce City Market and Krog Street Market. Evenings would be spent sampling craft cocktails at rooftop bars and enjoying live music in the city’s iconic venues.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to express my heartfelt thanks to all those who have played crucial roles in shaping both my personal journey and the evolution of delphistem. Firstly, my family has been my rock, offering unwavering support and encouragement, especially during the tough times.

A special mention goes to my wife, whose love, support, and patience have been remarkable. Her belief in my vision and constant encouragement have helped me navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship.

I’m also grateful to my collaborators and mentors for their guidance and wisdom, which have been invaluable throughout my career. Their insights have greatly influenced both my personal and professional growth.

Our initial delphistem investors and especially the first clients deserve a big thank you for their trust and support, which have been vital to our early success. Their feedback has helped shape our offerings and refine our approach.

Lastly, my friends have been a source of inspiration and motivation, offering encouragement and camaraderie every step of the way.
