We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Kynesia Bishop and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Kynesia, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
A Seat Creator LLC was created by discussing with a friend that I wanted to write about racial discrimination that black women endure in corporate settings. My friend suggested I do a podcast, and I thought about coaching. We met in the middle. I started posting video snippets on Instagram about various scenarios black women face in corporate settings. I started thinking I wanted to do more. I wanted to be a champion for black women. I started thinking about the concept of A Seat Creator LLC, and within a few months, I started a consulting firm.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’m excited about A Seat Creator LLC consulting firm. I’m excited about being able to help women of color achieve their professional dreams. It is hard to break systemic systems, but it is not impossible. I want women of color to feel empowered to challenge these systems. I’ve had many challenges, from achieving my doctorate to discrimination.

I knew other women of color experienced similar challenges by listening to their stories. I knew I needed to do something. I wanted to be a voice, a coach, and a mentor to women of color. Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging is not easy work. It is work that is essential to ensuring businesses and organizations thrive.

I’ve learned through DEIB work that it is essential for women of color to have a voice at the table. A seat is no longer the goal. Your voice is powerful. A Seat Creator LLC strives to empower women of color and help organizations thrive by setting sustainable DEIB goals.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My bestie is in town for a week. We will go hiking at Kennesaw Mountain one day and the Beltline for a run/walk another day. I’m a huge fan of brunch. We will go to Copeland’s of New Orleans for Sunday brunch. We will try Breakfast Boys and wr Social House. Dinner and drinks will be at Capers in Kennesaw. We travel to Lock & Key and Poor Calvins in Atlanta. We will head to The Battery for a little Atlanta Braves Baseball.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shout out my friend Askia Fountain. Askia challenged me to think bigger and pushed me out of my comfort zone. I appreciate his support in helping me birth A Seat Creator LLC.

I want to thank the Junior League of Atlanta’s DEI committee for introducing me to DEI in a way that supports everyone—letting me know that it is okay to challenge the status quo and that DEI work belongs in everything we do personally and professionally.

I want to thank my parents for always supporting me and my dreams.
