We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Kim McNair and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Kim, what do you attribute your success to?
First thing for me was perfecting my craft and learning the importance of serving others. Then I knew, I needed to be authentic in all my work and build strong relationships. Once I did that Identified my niche. I made sure I kept God first as I built a team of like minded people to succeed. The most important success of my brand was to be known as the problem solver and exceed the expectations of my clients. When I sit down with a client to discuss their plans and ideas, I have to identify their touch points and how to engage their audience with the brand. Working alongside them to craft and create a concept for an amazing event from beginning to end. But what makes KMP unique is the ability to help them in the area of marketing and promotions. taking their idea to the next level. Once I knew I had a multifaceted brand I was able to succeed. One extra I’m helping our young girls by mentoring them to become successful women in business.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started my business out of passion, I loved the stage when I was a professional model. When I retired I did what I knew how to do, I began to produce runway fashion shows. It was hard because I moved to a different state and I didn’t know anyone and no one knew me. So I had to start from scratch, boots on the ground. I was not shy I could talk to people but I needed to sell my concept not the clothes I was wearing. I had to recruit models who wanted to learn the craft of modeling from a professional. So It was important to be authentic and honest. Once I convinced the community I had to deliver and put on a FULL production. I had a little savings and I had to step out on faith and put my money where my mouth was and showcase this new company McNair Productions. Moral of the story is, its now 2020 and I’ve been in business over 20 years expanding from producing fashion shows to now doing conferences, golf tournaments, corporate events, gala’s and so much more. I learned to do the research, invest in myself, and to lead by example. Always be authentic and keep your word.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was in town I would make sure he/she had great hotel accommodations with all the amenities. Then we would seek out some Atlanta’s hot spots for good food. Ole Lady Gang is one of my favorites. I’ve always had hot food and good meals their and its located downtown. Or we could go over to Atlantic Station in midtown to the Yard House another one of my favorite places to eat. For day out we would do some shopping at Lenox Mall and possibly get our nails and pedicures done at Heavenly Nails. We would have to enjoy an evening with live music I would go to City Winery at Ponce City Market. Always end the weekend with a good Sunday Church Service.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First my Grandmother (Nana) gave me the encouragement that I could be whatever I wanted to be in life as long as I worked hard at it, and my mother instilled in me the importance of work life balance and to be a provider. But Dr. Lucille O’Neal showed me the strength is in being faithful and having patients to pursue the goals and to keep GOD first in doing so. By doing these things I have grown to be stronger as a business woman and to take on the challenges with grace, faith and perseverance.
