We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr Greg Stevens and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr Greg, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I am a licensed psychologist with over 15 years of clinical experience and spent 14 years working in university counseling centers. Throughout these years, I gained extensive experience overseeing daily operations for a comprehensive continuum of clinical services, providing clinical and administrative supervision to multiple licensed and pre-licensed clinicians, helping develop a doctoral internship program accredited by the American Psychological Association, and providing a range of clinical and preventative services to university communities. While I deeply valued this work, I wanted to expand my offerings beyond the limits of universities and focus on my specializations in therapy for trauma survivors, marginalized people, and healthy masculinity. Opening a private therapy practice in Marietta, GA has allowed me to grow these specializations while more deeply serving a larger number and wider range of people and developing more partnerships in the northwest Atlanta metro area. I have also connected more with other therapists across Georgia. I am excited to continue serving the northwest Atlanta area and keep developing more community partnerships.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I specialize in working with adults who are struggling with how they have been hurt and limited by others and have developed patterns that limit them and their relationships. I work especially well with adult survivors of childhood trauma, people with marginalized identities, and helping men develop healthy masculinity. My clients experience me as particularly warm, calming, sensitive, and lighthearted. It is important to me that in every session, we make space to honor the depth of your struggles, you feel truly valued, and we help you make manageable progress toward your goals. I am committed to therapy because I know firsthand the transformative power of how sharing my struggles with a skilled therapist who is willing to join me can make them easier to bear and overcome. I have developed my specialties with trauma survivors, marginalized people, and healthy masculinity to contribute to a more socially just world in which everyone can heal, social systems improve, and cultures become more compassionate.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A week-long visit with me would offer a lot of great opportunities. One of my favorite aspects of the Atlanta area is its easy access to both the diverse culture of metro Atlanta and the beauty of the North Georgia Mountains. I have a Jeep that I have modified for off-roading. A good start might be taking a day to explore some hidden gems in North Georgia. While up there, we could visit the Sasquatch museum in Blue Ridge, GA, Expedition: Bigfoot! Back near Atlanta, I love the wide variety of live music that is available. My favorite local musicians are Jonathan and Abigail Peyton, independent singer/songwriters from Woodstock, GA who write achingly heartfelt songs. A visit just to see them perform would be worthwhile in itself. Woodstock also has a lively downtown with many unique restaurants and greenspaces to spend time relaxing with loved ones. I really enjoy the atmosphere outside at Reformation Brewery and combined with Queenies BBQ from their shared space, it’s a perfect pairing. And if we need to restore after so much fun, I have been benefiting from the yoga classes at gruvnYOGA in Marietta. It’s only a couple blocks from my office too!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have been fortunate to be supported by countless wonderful people throughout my life. Opening my therapy practice has been especially encouraged by my wife who is my biggest cheerleader, my colleague and friend of over 10 years, Dr. Josh Gunn, who developed a group practice with me, and many other colleagues, friends, and family members who offered me their invaluable advice and support as I embarked on this new venture.
