We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Demetrius Bell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Demetrius, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When it came to starting NeedVendors.com, my thought process was a deliberate and multi-faceted one, almost like a strategic roadmap: My diverse experience across Business, IT, Management, and Leadership, coupled with my work as a Business Analyst understanding the needs of professionals in the Private and Public sectors, revealed a critical challenge in Public sector procurement that I was passionate about solving. This passion drove the creation of NeedVendors.com, a platform I believe represents a revolutionary step forward in Private sector procurement.
1. Self-Assessment and Vision Casting
I began with a comprehensive self-assessment of my life. This involved taking stock of my current position, identifying my inherent value and the opportunities available to me, and vividly envisioning the type of life I aspire to create. In essence, it was a personal SWOTT analysis, examining my strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, but with a forward-looking perspective on my desired future.
2. Identifying and Solving Real-World Problems
My next step was to actively search for a problem that resonated with a significant number of people. I believe true innovation stems from addressing genuine needs. Once a problem was identified, I then worked through a logical progression of developing and refining potential solutions. This involved critical thinking, creativity, and a focus on practicality.
3. Aligning Passion with Purpose and Profit
Finally, I evaluated potential ventures against a strict set of criteria. The ideal business had to meet three key requirements: it had to be something that addressed a widespread problem, something I genuinely enjoyed doing, and something that could be delivered as a tangible product, a scalable system, or a valuable service. This ensures not only the viability of the business but also my sustained passion and commitment to its success.
This structured approach, combining a deep understanding of myself with a market-driven problem-solving methodology, has been instrumental in shaping my entrepreneurial journey.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Education was always emphasized in our household, a path I embraced wholeheartedly. I pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, followed by a Master of Business Administration, and ultimately, a Doctorate in Management and Leadership. This academic foundation, combined with my lifelong involvement in various business ventures—from entrepreneurial endeavors and network marketing to startup companies—has fueled my passion for creating and building.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Fortunately for my best friend visiting for a week, they have someone like me to show them around! I’m all about fitness, exploring new spots, people-watching, and finding those perfect ambiance-driven locations. Plus, being a pescatarian who doesn’t drink or smoke means we’ll discover try some new spots. I’m a total ambivert, so I’m happy to dive into exciting activities or enjoy more laid-back moments, and I’m game for almost anything when invited. I’m all about activities and and I’m a picky eater, so anything we do will be active and delicious. I balance that with self-care activities like massages, pedicures (sometimes manicures), a good movie on the big screen, or just lounging with friends and family. Assuming my friend arrives on a Friday evening and assuming they will be checking into a hotel downtown a high level itinerary will consist of the following:
Friday Evening: Walk to near-by restaurant for dinner, after dinner lobby lounge in hotel for a bit, maybe board games
Saturday: Outdoor activity beltline or nature trail, kale-me-krazy or similar after, chef prepared dinner at an Airbnb with pool with friends, fam, collogues (low key and fun)
Sunday: I don’t plan too much on Sundays typically go with the flow or catch up on things I need to get done, would see what my friend would like to do, I’ll be open to most things or just relaxing
Monday: Moring gym workout, breakfast (made at home or out), lobby lounge at an nice hotel while on laptop working, evening networking event,
Tuesday: Moring gym workout, breakfast (made at home or out), Fun activity (gun range, escape room, virtual reality, etc. ) lunch, and dinner
Wednesday: Morning gym workout, breakfast (made at home or out), site see/museum, bowling, movies, food hall
Thursday: Morning gym workout, breakfast (made at home or out), drop friend to airport
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My journey into entrepreneurship is deeply rooted in the values instilled by my hardworking parents. Growing up as one of five children, I witnessed their unwavering dedication to providing for our family. My mother, through her commitment to gaining full-time employment after specialized training, and my father, who tirelessly worked as both a sanitation worker and a contractor, showed me the true meaning of perseverance. We may not have had an abundance of material possessions, but we were rich in family love. There was always a roof over our heads and a warm meal on the table, and for that, I am eternally grateful.
