We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Carla Pennington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Carla, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from a small town in rural Alabama called, Wagarville. I graduated from a nearby city, called Chatom, AL by way of Washington County High School. I was brought up in a loving, hardworking, Christian household. My parents Carl & Angela Pennington have been married for 39 years. I have two brothers, Kyle & Kerrigan & a fur baby, Mr. Polo.

Our family dynamics have always been to put God first in everything we do and that’s why I am successful today. Education is important to me and I charged myself to be the best I can be by receiving an Associates of Arts from Shelton State Community College, Bachelor of Arts in Communication & Information Sciences & Master of Arts in Advertising & Public Relations, both from The University of Alabama; and lastly, I have a Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership from The University of Phoenix.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Nothing in life in easy. If you want to be successful, you have to take risk. My first business is Prestigious Communications, LLC. Prestigious Communications, LLC is a virtual consulting firm that teaches leaders better ways to lead and retain staff through strategy sessions. My second business as the author of The Adventures of Mr. Polo is a children’s book series about adventures told through the eyes of my 9 year old Shih Tzu dog, Mr. Polo. The Adventures of Mr. Polo was created as an educational tool for new readers and people with learning disabilities to have an interactive book to explore ways to learn how to read. The book is full of colors, photos and ask questions to the reader to encourage critical thinking & communication skills.

The lessons I have learned along the way is to make a visual vision board that includes, deadlines, goals, objectives, and a budget. In the beginning, I was working off the top of my head, until I realized in order to hold myself accountable I needed a vision board and strategy partners to discuss ideas, etc.

I want the world to know, this is only the beginning of Prestigious Communications, LLC & The Adventures of Mr. Polo. I want both brands to become household names and increase in the business and educational industry. I aim to utilize all the skills I have from my various degrees to help leaders worldwide and to promote the importance of education.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love living in Atlanta, Georgia. There is so much to do. I would definitely pick on of my favorite hiking trails and explore the outdoors and waterfalls. We would explore Stone Mountain, World of Coke, Georgia Aquarium, Piedmont Park, Botanical Gardens and hit up all my favorite brunch spots, restaurants and nightlife spots (way too many to name). We would definitely have a blast in the city exploring all the fun things to do in Atlanta, GA.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents are great mentors for me. They are both business savvy and well-rounded individuals. My prayer partners help keep me grounded spiritually. My immediate family & close friends are a great support system in everything I do. I am also thankful for Renetta Gunn-Stevens, CEO of Sophisticated Press & LaTonya Bynum, CEO of URA Resources for their business strategy sessions over the past two years. They have been wonderful for the growth of both my businesses and brands.
