We had the good fortune of connecting with Dorian Lumpkin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dorian, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand is “equity and inclusion for all”. When we think of equity and inclusion some people automatically think of race, especially in 2021. When I think of equity, I take it a step further and think of even playing fields for the advantaged and disadvantaged. I think of the resources available to those who know what they need for their child, and those who don’t know where to turn or who to seek assistance from. Covered Village Educational Services is just that. That safe haven for all families who need educational services which include but not limited to tutoring, educational consulting and other pediatric referrals for their children. They are covered, cared for, and guided with instruction in the way best suited for THEIR learning style and developmental stage…..it truly takes a village.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ohhhh so, if we’re talking fun…we’re talking about food and music! I love a good time with good food and vibes! If it’s a week long trip, we’re getting massages, going to Painting w/a Twist to do a sip and paint session, hitting up a few of my favorite food spots like Broadway Diner, or La Haciendas (Fayetteville,Ga), and getting some wings from a few of my favorite wing spots. After all this random eating lol we will probably be hitting up the gym at PHIT (BOB, Old National Hwy, Riverdale), and relaxing again at the house watching ratchet I MEAN reality tv recordings lol After all these festivities throughout the week, we would end with brunch at Nana’s Chicken & Waffles (Conyers) , vibing to tunes provided by DJ LUMP (IG iamdjlump), or Fork & Flavors at their Trap Brunch (Kennesaw). Then we will rest and relax on Sunday listening in to church, before eating a nice home cooked meal (I thrown down ok!) and sending her off!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout Paula Charles, the President of The Suzuki School. Ms. Paula always encouraged women to step up and out to make it happen and get it done! She would tell me, if you want it done tell me how you would do it! She continually encouraged us all to be life long learners, and never satisfied with they tell you but read and find out for yourself. I accredit so many trainings, wealth of knowledge, and opportunity for growth and expansion outside of the classroom to her. You were tough, I even didn’t understand your “why” at times, but I now know that business is about facts not feelings, and business should never be personal.
I also want to thank all of my parents and clientele who believe and believed in me entrusting their child’s educational journey with Covered Village. You are humbly appreciated!
Lastly, my amazing husband, family & friends for their unwavering support when I decided to leave my career after 7 years in the midst of a pandemic. While they asked questions, and wanted to know a solid plan, they saw how big my faith was, and trusted ME when I said God had released me to go further and make more impact. I love y’all 🙂
