We had the good fortune of connecting with Donovan Whitaker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Donovan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my business was pretty much self-explanatory. I’ve always had a passion for the arts, possessed a creative spirit, and loved fashion/style/etc. I have been passionate about Graphic Design and Creative Direction for over ten years now. Learning new things in the design field became second nature simply because I found something that I enjoyed doing. When you mix something you absolutely love with your job it becomes second nature— making success much easier! Once you’ve found your passion, make it your hustle and network!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My specified art medium is Graphic Design— specializing in Animated Motion Graphics, Digital Flyers, Web Design, Logos, & Album Art. What sets me apart from others is that I’ve been a freelance graphic designer for over 10+ years and everything that I know I’ve taught myself. I love to say that I pretty much know how to do ANYTHING on Adobe Photoshop, HTML/CSS, etc. I am most proud of my accomplishments as an established entrepreneur in the field where I’m most passionate about. Atlanta, GA (as well as other major cities) has given me a platform to work with major celebrity and social media influencer clientele that has in return grown my network tremendously. A constant and steady hustle has gotten to where I am today. “You are your worst enemy.” Whatever you think you can’t accomplish, is strictly because you won’t allow yourself. Getting to where I am now was not an easy task. Trust me, there were moments where I constantly doubted my creativity and let it get the best of me— resulting in days/weeks stuck in a creative negative space and not knowing how to get past it. Knowing that your greatest accomplishments won’t happen overnight and that you’re placed in your position for a specific reason is one of the major ways to overcome any challenges that you may be facing. Time changes things. I want the world to know that You can be whoever you want to be or build whatever brand you want to build just keep hustle and energy consistent!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love visiting the HIGH Museum of Art. That’s a great place to visit to capture content, see what’s new, or if you’re just into art in general. Eating is ALWAYS a vibe. I can’t even name the many places there are to chow down here. If you’re going for food and a vibe, go hang out on Peters St. You’ll definitely have some fun! Atlanta always has fun things going on. Just hop out and get in the mix!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my HBCU, Morehouse College, for always pushing me to become the Man I am today. Morehouse has taught me a great deal of knowledge needed to navigate through personal business endeavors (entrepreneurship), creativity, and the ropes of what it is to be a Black Man in today’s society.
