We had the good fortune of connecting with Donny Brooks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Donny, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business it’s to give you something that I didn’t have growing up and that’s resources in Baseball . Also giving the youth another outlet.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What inspired me to create The Akron Baseball Project Inc. was that I wanted to give children a different outlet different resources for Baseball also to keep the kids out the streets, also to focus on education as well as playing the game that really big for me .A few goals I have when it comes to creating the Akron Baseball Project Inc. is that the youth enjoy it. They also walk away learning something educational from it not mathematics science it also for them to keep their grades up because Baseball is a educational sport organization. The Akron Baseball Project because Baseball is missing in Akron and it’s a project that needs to be worked on every day and that’s what I’m creating, I feel it’s important to do you needs to know that it’s ok too try something new and not be made fun of because everybody else is not doing it. my name is Donny Ali Brooks I am 32 years old I’m born and raised in Akron Ohio. The foundational purpose is making sure that you create your game that’s my slogan for The Akron Baseball Project Inc. meaning that you create your destiny you create what you wanna make your life and I stand on that plan to make The Akron Baseball Project long-term not just Akron I want to take this to Cleveland. I want to take this to Canton and take over Ohio. How you can contact me homerunbrooks32@gmail.com. It real good to be on Channel 5 for my first Akron Baseball Project Inc. for my nonprofit organization and also in October for being on Fox8. I played two years for University of Akron and 2 1/2 years for the flying squirrels minor-league team this is always been a passion of mine since I was 13 years old I told myself once I got done playing a game of baseball as a player I wanted to start my own Baseball organization and to help kids and just improve on your skills, life education, and keep them out the streets. What I am most proud about is that my dreams are coming alive and saving the youth in my community as well as other communities and as well as making my family proud. Was it easy no you have people that don’t believe in you, but I use that as motivation to keep pushing to keep thriving.. the lessons that I learned along the way is that you never give up keep finding ways to improve on what you’re doing and in my case, my company learning from my last camp or my last clinic or my last training session there’s always room for improvement. I want the world to know that The Akron Baseball Project is here to stay and it’s not going anywhere. We are going to keep on improving next on the list is getting teams different age groups to start our own independent teams up under Akron Baseball Project Inc.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Where I would go eat, and drink would be DeJuan’s Dining Great food good energy very beautiful establishment. I would also go and catch an Akron Rubber Ducks game as well not far from the restaurant and also I would visit Vaughntis tux suits, and dresses. You never know when you need something nice to wear as well as all the African-American owned eateries.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother deserves a lot of credit of where I am today. My mother worked two jobs worked on her bachelors degree and got me through high school, so I was able to play college baseball and beyond she practiced with me and my game since I was a young boy. She always made sure that stick to something and focus on it. That was very important to me. It kept me focused and out the streets and any negative influences that came my way over the years, appreciate my mother and love her for that. I love you mom
