Meet Dominique Newman | Boutique Owner & Nurse

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Newman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dominique, every day, we talk about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
My idea for Sugar N Spice Boutique came from my passion for fashion. After being a nurse for 12 years, I decided to step away from the medical field and focus on my passion. I’m a strong believer in doing what you love. Honestly, I loved being a nurse. I’m still a nurse but I LOVE fashion more. Fashion brings me joy!

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Sugar N Spice Boutique is an online clothing store for women who love classy and sophisticated pieces with a touch of edginess.. We have a few everyday wear items but we like to provide options to women who are shopping for statement pieces for events/special occasions.

What sets us apart from most boutiques is that customer service is our top priority. We focus more on customer satisfaction vs making money. I think that’s the nurse in me! Lol.. Also, we take pride in providing good quality clothing.

I’m most proud of how I’ve grown as an entrepreneur. I’m extremely proud of myself because I’m the owner, model, photographer, customer service rep and etc. Basically, I do everything on my own. I’m excited about starting my own brand and becoming a fashion designer to provide unique pieces to our customers. I will be launching my own brand very soon!!!

Growth takes time. Business life lessons and mistakes made me a better entrepreneur. The retail world is not easy! There will be many highs and lows. I had to learn how to toughen my skin and stop sweating small stuff. I also learned to focus on my business only and appreciate the process. Success doesn’t happen overnight. Hard work pays off at the right time (God’s timing)!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, all praise and honor goes to God because he is the head of my life. Secondly. my husband (Hollis Kendrick) thanks for always believing in me and supporting my dreams. Most importantly, I would like to give a shoutout to my family, friends, customers and my amazing hairstylist/mother (Tunja Newman) & make-up artist Megan Wilkerson with Let’s Kiss And Make Up Artistry. My support system is unmatched and I’m truly grateful for all the love. Lastly, shoutout to Abide Meditation App, Joyce Meyers book “Do It Afraid”, and TD Jakes/Joel Osteen sermons.
