Meet Dominique Jones

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dominique, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have very strong opinions regarding the mental health field and how it is largely run by for-profit entities that seem to put the profit before the needs of the clients. From working for several different treatment centers and private practices post masters, I noticed that the pursuit of profit would often hinder access to quality mental health services, as well as create a disparity between therapists and upper management. This really bothered me. It often felt like, the very reason for why I got into this field came second to profit. It’s frustrating to care so much and want to help others but be powerless to provide that because I am an employee of a for-profit entity. I was often limited to what I could provide for my clients while working for these other entities. Infinite Growth Counseling & Coaching was born from this. It was born from a growing frustration of wanting to put the client first, before the profit. I want my clients to feel like their voice and life matters and they aren’t just a check waiting to be written. With having my own business and working for myself, I was able to create that space.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Infinite Growth Counseling & Coaching LLC is a solo private practice providing individual and relationship counseling to queer, BIPOC, and individuals struggling with s*x/intimacy issues, as well as life coaching for those wanting a more holistic approach. What sets this practice apart from others is it is a one stop shop for one to address their overall wellness through a myriad of different approaches and tactics, based on unique, individualized needs. Clients are provided with an open, nonjudgmental, s*x positive space that also addresses other mental health concerns including depression, anxiety, personality disorders, and other mood disorders.
What I’m most proud of is my flexibility regarding payment for services, to better accommodate clients from different socioeconomic statuses. I’m also very proud to be able to serve my fellow queers and minoritized peoples because it is hard to find therapists that mirror certain identities we have and that can really make all the difference.
Getting to where I am today business-wise as a Black, lesbian woman was nothing short of trial-and-error. In all honesty, I had no idea what I was doing when I first started my practice back in June 2024. All I knew was that I wanted to create a space where client care came first. I quit my job at a local addiction treatment center with a name and a logo for my practice and no idea how I was going to gain clients or make a name for myself. It was after creating profiles on popular search engines like PsychologyToday.com and Therapyforblackgirls.com that the clients began to roll in. I approached client-care with my beliefs in mind which blossomed into the practice you know today as Infinite Growth Counseling & Coaching LLC.
Even though Infinite Growth CC consists of just me for the time being, it has been no easy feat. Everyone wants to be a business owner but no one really prepares you for the sheer amount of work, including late nights, phone calls, and financial pitfalls it all comes with. Despite this, I’ve loved every minute. The autonomy to approach client-care the way I feel it should be done, to provide high quality care to each and every one of my clients regardless of socioeconomic status. It’s absolutely riveting, rewarding, and fulfilling beyond words. I’ve met every challenge through leaning on support and knowledge of loved ones, colleagues, peers, and individual research. I was able to get a payroll started for my business, learn how to manage my books and business expenses, and maximize my income through these things.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way is the value and sheer magnitude of having a support system. It has always been a challenge of mine to see myself through the eyes of others; to see and truly acknowledge what I’m capable of; to believe in myself and the value I bring to whatever I put my mind to. It can feel so heavy sometimes, it’s like moving a mountain, but my support system provides me with all the strength I need to get the mountain moving. For that, I’m beyond thankful.
What I want the world to know about my brand and story is that although this private practice is for profit, it was created FOR YOU. This was my baby, born out of hardship and frustration into this beautiful masterpiece. Although it’s a work in progress, with the end goal being to have multiple counselors and a permanent office space, it’s still a sight to behold.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them to midtown to check out My Sister’s Room on a Friday night. I also would definitely make time for us to ride bird scooters through the beltline and Piedmont Park. While on the beltline, we would absolutely have to stop at Playa Bowls for an acai fruit bowl.
I’m a huge foodie so I would definitely be showing off some of my favorite places to eat. Goodfellas Pizza, La Fonda, Bar Taco, Nova Sushi, Polaris, Ton Ton Ramen, and Fontaine’s to name a few.
I also absolutely love coffee, so we would definitely be stopping at some of my favorite cafes and coffee shops: Omni Coffee & Eggs, Daily Dose Coffee, Perc Coffee, and Black Coffee.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shoutout my mentor and graduate assistantship professor of my Doctoral program at Mercer University, Dr. Kristina Henderson, for being a listening ear and always providing me with sound advice regarding navigating the counseling field.
Additionally, I would like to give special thanks to my best friend of 15 years, Jewel Grimes, for always supporting me and being a voice of encouragement in my battle with self-doubt.
I also would like to shoutout Laura Silverman of Sweetgrass Integrative Counseling & Therapy LLC for giving me a grant to pay for my licensure exam back in 2021, an overwhelming barrier to me starting a journey into licensure in the midst of the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Your act of kindness gave me an opportunity to move forward and gain experience as a counselor.
Lastly, I want to shoutout my partner, Deja Kehinde, for always being there to support me emotionally, physically, and mentally since the day we met.
Of course, special thanks to every single loved one in my life that has supported this dream. It means everything to me.
