We had the good fortune of connecting with Dominique Dykes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dominique, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is being observant. Success comes with experience, struggles, and observations. One thing I learned is that people are constantly changing. We are constantly changing our ideas, likes, dislikes, style, taste and so much more. Being observant and learning how to flow with the waves in the ocean is how my brand succeeded. It comes with experience and being open minded to change.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business, The House of Dom, is an online clothing store where affordable and luxury meets in the middle for people like me. It’s just the start for the empire that I want The House of Dom to become and trust me, it wasn’t easy. The House of Dom went through ups and downs. It even started with finding the right name and sticking by it. I went through multiple websites, failed business launches, and little to nothing to show for it. My biggest challenge was that I didn’t have the patience to wait and see progress. Over time however, I decided to go back to the drawing board, plan everything out step by step, research, observe, and take notes. I learned that if I work hard at my passion and give it a chance, people will give it a chance too. Now, The House of Dom is doing amazing and I plan to create more and brand out under The House of Dom.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Right now, I think Top Golf is the it spot in Augusta. If you’re into golfing and lounging, that’s the place where people go to hang out and have a good time. After hours however, I would say The Scene is the place where you could literally meet anybody, become best friends, and never see them again. There’s all kinds of people there and everyone is there to do the same things: drink and dance. The Scene is right downtown and everything is downtown. If you want to have a good time, downtown is the place to go. It has amazing clubs, lounges, bars, restaurants, hotels, and even historial monuments. With the right crowd, downtown is a place you would never want to leave.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
For starters, my passion and consistency for hard work wouldn’t amount to anything without my mom. I grew up in a single parent household, so I strive for greatness in everything so that she can have everything. She’s my motivation for majority of my choices. I would also like to shoutout my mentors and professors throughout college. They pushed me further into life as a degreed black woman and I am forever grateful because it opened a lot of doors for me.
