We had the good fortune of connecting with D’Lana Dominic and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi D’Lana, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Well, I recently just quit a job I had been employed with over the past 4 years. Working a full time job along with my business was very hard to balance. In fact, there was no “balance” because I had to work extensive hours due to the mandatory overtime. Therefore, I would only have my off days to work toward my business within a six day workweek. So, in order to overcome the challenge of a heavy workload, I would utilize different posting apps that would help me set scheduled Instagram and Facebook posts. Doing so allowed me to still adhere to my audience via social media and stay in the loop while I was in the workplace. As of now quitting the job has allowed me to free up time where I can solely work on my business.

With life being as joyous, chaotic and eventful as it is – having real work life balance almost comes second to none. However, to combat it, I take things one day at a time by planning, staying organized and remaining relevant on social media by staying consistent with authentic content.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Okay so my art of creating natural hair care products started when I did a “big chop” February of 2018. I literally went in the mirror and grabbed a regular pair of scissors I had in my apartment – they weren’t even professional hair scissors lol. I was so tired of my hair and the unhealthy state it was in at the time. So I decided to cut it all off to about 3-4 inches. After I cut my hair I started doing at home DIY hair experiments posting them to my YouTube channel and social media pages. My followers would always ask questions and encouraged me to make personals for them. So during this time, I discovered honey – I put raw organic honey in my hair and I fell in love. Honey left my hair so moisturized and soft. I was amazed, from there on out I started experimenting and then I came up with my number one seller today – Honey Whip deep conditioner. Honey Whip contains raw organic honey and it was the first product I created and sold e-commerce.

I am most proud of me staying consistent, persistent and persevering throughout this journey the past 4 years. There has been times I wanted to give up but I remind myself that this is just the beginning and that I have a lot more work to do. Giving up would just be a disservice to myself, my brand and my loyal customers.

I want the world to know that Lana Organix is not only a natural hair care line but a brand that encourages herbal and holistic healing. Not only do we advocate for healthy hair topically but internally too. Lana Organix encourages all things healthy from the things you are consuming in your diet to the things you are doing to maintain your wellbeing. We cannot encourage healthy hair care if we do not take heed and promote an overall healthy lifestyle.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to eat! So we would for sure visit my favorite restaurants. Brooklyn Street Local – they have good VEGAN breakfast/brunch food. Condado Tacos – their tacos are the best! And yes they even have a vegetarian taco thats amazing. Kola Caribbean restaurant – they have authentic African food which is so bomb. Floods- their food is amazing and I even go there for drinks. I love the veggie burgers that North Bar has. Bai Mai Thai has the best Thai food in the city in my opinion.

As far as going out, I don’t really hang out much in the city. I love to travel so if I can I am traveling outside the city for fun.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout Jasmine Tillman for collaborating with me in quarter two of 2020 by taking on the role as the social media manager for my brand, Lana Organix. Jasmine helped me so much with an increase of sales and social media marketing. She really gave me that extra boost I needed to expand my brand and make my presence known on social media. I really appreciate her for helping me at that time. She literally went hard for my business as it was her own. She did things so effortlessly – she was a natural. Things just came to her and they would just work! Jasmine definitely helped Lana Organix make a pivotal change within the last four years of business!
