We had the good fortune of connecting with DJ Tay Cool and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi DJ, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is foundation. Your foundation has to be solid. The meaning I’ve created of that is having a good support system and also maintaining a character. Things are a little different being a women in the industry. We aren’t offered the same opportunities and actually have to work for everything. I remained humble thus far through my career and building relations and connections that can last forever. ” I gotta keep my name worth more than money and gold and remain humble around my people cause I don’t spoil my soul” – Meek Mill. Your name can take you places further than money. With a solid foundation you can conquer anything.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
My name is Tajah Marshall well known as “DJ Tay Cool” located in Baltimore, MD. I’m the #1 female DJ in my city. I jumped into my career as a kid and never looked back. I had took a break from my profession when I got to high school. Entering my college career back in 2015 I self-taught myself as the technology of Dj’ing has changed from when I was younger. It wasn’t always easy having to build a base and following to increase my bookings. Im often set apart from other’s being that I’m a female in a predominantly male based career. I’m proud to see how far I’ve came from working at every venue in my city, traveling out of state for events and even out of the country. I never thought I could have done the things I’ve accomplished and this is only the beginning…
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When I’m back home in Baltimore I like to hang out at Yabaz Hookah Lounge or if I’m in the partying mode Select Lounge or Euporhia Night Club. My favorite spots to eat is Jerk At Nite or Papi Cuisine. If I’m in Atlanta “my second home” my favorite spot to party is Zari.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate the support of my best-friends/ sisters. My sister Lola Buckson is a stylist located in ATL. She has been supporting me from day one starting off at college apartment parties. She has done my album work and made sure my mentaility is always on point. My sister Rayvn is a bartender located in LA. Her energy is like no other when it comes to supporting me.
