We had the good fortune of connecting with Dj Prince and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dj Prince, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
When ever i say i’m a dj people’s typical responses are “you get drunk every day” “such an easy job” “that’s not work”. Little do they know there is work behind just pressing play. My job starts way before the party even starts. I have to prepare my sets depending where i’m djing. I have to constantly be buying music and staying up to date with new music to give the crowd the best experience, and music is not cheap! When people hear how much i charge the first thing they say is why so much? You have to buy music for best quality, laptop, headphones, microphones, and most of the money i make i put into my business in advertisement. So no, my job isn’t just getting drunk every weekend.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started as a mobile dj in the area of Harrisburg PA. I quickly switched over to doing latin nights at any spot that was willing to work with me. I was the first one to do latin nights in the area so people quickly started seeing the success of it and others quickly started doing it too. Interesting thing is places that i pitched the idea to first they rejected me. Once they started seeing the success of it than they wanted to work. I had so many people laugh at me and not willing to give me a hand when i needed help and now those same people want me to help them. Starting out in the “dj” scene is not easy but for me it just pushes me to prove to them that they should of gave me a chance. I am no where near where i want to be with my career but i am alot further now as to when i started. This is only the beginning

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Favorite spot would have to be downtown bars. no specific one, just grab a drink play some darts or pool and hang out and listen to some music. Downtown harrisburg has some interesting museums to visit and of course during the night the clubs are always a must go to if your in town

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Music runs in my family but my number one supporter was my brother who sadly passed away in the beginning of this year. In a way that has given me a push to continue my career and make him proud. When it comes to djs there are a lot of inspirations but growing up New York’s on aire dj Alex Sensation was my idol opening doors for latin djs all over the world.
