We had the good fortune of connecting with Dj Papi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dj Papi, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks is crucial for achieving life goals. In 1998, a owner of a record store invited me to meet Outkast and he told me that thier Dj was from Cleveland, OH. When he told me that, it changed my perspective and inspired me to become a DJ for the legendary Goodie Mob. Despite a detour due to becoming a father, I eventually took a leap of faith in June 2022 and moved to Georgia. This risky move led to the incredible opportunity of becoming the DJ for Goodie Mob in October 2023. Reflecting on my journey, I’ve learned that taking risks is about pushing limits, embracing challenges, and staying true to aspirations. So, if you have dreams, don’t be afraid to take risks and embrace uncertainty. The rewards will be worth it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

As a professional Dj/ Producer I like to bring a vibe to any event. Warning! You will #partywithdjpapi
What sets me apart:
In recent years, many people and DJs have claimed that dancing is declining. They argue that instead of dancing, club-goers are more interested in using their smartphones and smoking hookahs. While I have seen this behavior, my experience as a DJ tells a different story.
Throughout my career, I have played for diverse audiences and explored different music genres. The key is having a genuine love for music and people. It’s important to not rely solely on popular radio hits, but to also discover new and classic tracks. Drawing from my travels and exposure to different cultures, I have blended their music together to create a fresh and exciting vibe.
How did I get to where I’m at today?
God, faith, confidence, open to learning new things, being consistent and having my beautiful in my corner.
Was it easy?
It’s easy to give up, but if you love something you won’t give up. There was a time I stopped for a year but I realized that what I do helps me and others get over issues because they’re having a good time enjoying music and dancing.
What Lessons?
If you want to really a dj a buy the professional equipment at the beginning if you can afford it, save up first. You don’t want to have cheap stuff and it goes out l. First impressions are everything. Also being a dj we can have some technical issues like out the blue your computer freezes, an update runs, a hard drive crash etc… What I do to overcome those issues is having a backup hard drive, backup laptop, run your update that morning.
What I want the world to know about Dj Papi is that nothing comes overnight and its never too late to follow your dreams.

Tune in every Saturday 4pm-6pm to Redcup conversation Hott 923 on IHeart Radio with host Shawn Ward, B Smooth and Dj Papi

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

I’m working on producing some songs for a few people and myself so I don’t have many free days off but I would have them come with me to Trap city Cafe on Weds 9pm with my guys Comedian K Dubb, TIP Harris to get some laughs. 660 Northside Dr NW, Atlanta, GA 30318.
Saturday Morning or afternoon I would tell them to hit up my home girl spots for some of the best food and service in ATL.
Pretti Plates 1722 Campbellton Rd SW, Atlanta, GA 30311
Tap in with me and my guys from Uptown Car Club we have some dope classic cars and we have events where we party and dance. We’re at different locations.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

I thank God every morning for blessing me with having great health, skills, talents, confidence, determination, faith and sending my beautiful high school crush which became my wife in 2007.
My wife is the best thing I never knew I needed. She’s a great mother to our kids and she really believes in me and that’s so important when you have dreams and goals. If I ever feel like friends or family not supporting me, I know my #1 cheerleader got me and that makes me go into another gear. I love you Patrice.
