Meet Diwan Majors | Hair Industry Professional & Hair Industry Educator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Diwan Majors and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diwan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process was really simple. I wanted to work for myself. After years of factory work and a several bad life choices. I wanted to do something I was proud of and would provide me with a means to take care of my family. I took a skill that I pick up while in jail and turned it into a business. Major Kutz is the result of a decision I made to stand on my own two feet and make it happen.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’m very excited about the future of Major Kutz. I will be expanding my business to be apart of every aspect of the hair industry.
My level of success is attributed to my many sacrifices, my business structure, my discipline and the fact that I stayed consistent through it all. Not to mention a host of mentors, teachers, and business professionals that help push me in the right direction. It was not easy at all. There were a lot of disappointments, setbacks, do overs, and try agains. Overcoming those challenges was rough cause if I wasn’t mentally strong enough they would have broken me. Although they injured me quite a few times, I was able to persevere because I knew my purpose in this industry and what failure meant for me and my family.
I’ve learned several lessons on the road to success. Which I’m currently still on by the way!
I wont name them all but what appear to be the most important are; be teachable, work hard and stay consistent.
Major Kutz is and will always be revered due to the work we do in our community. We are not just a barbershop. We are your brothers, your fathers , Grandfathers, cousins we are your Family. Major Kutz is here to inspire, encourage and empower every client, student and anybody we come into contact with.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since I like to start my weeks of with good energy and a workout we would start Sunday off with a sun rise hike up Stone Mountain followed by a Falcons game. Monday night football at Sudos bar and lounge in Ellenwood, Ga. Tuesday and Wednesday we would drive around city and do some site seeing. Spend a little money at Lenox mall and visit some historical site in the city. One of my favorite being The Home of Alonzo Herndon. He was the first black millionaire barber. Thursday night hit Apache to hear some spoken word. Friday night we are at the Atlanta Comedy Theater after dinner At the Sun Dial. Finally we would spend Saturday at Atlantic Station doing some more shopping.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to everyone who is currently in one of life’s many struggles and feels as if there’s no way out. I ask that you take time to discover your gift in life. Not what you like to do but what you are driven to do. Doing this will ensure that when life tries to block you from achieving the goals you’ve set for yourself, you will keep going no matter what. Life is what you make it, so never let anyone tell you can’t be great. We only get one life to live make the best yours!
