We had the good fortune of connecting with Diezie Sahn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diezie, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
True happiness to me comes when I am providing for myself, and my family and bringing my ideas to life by fulfilling what I love. In this case, is through film, music, and Introducing new ideas to the world in which I come from, West Africa Liberia for a start.
For most of my childhood, I’ve lived in poverty and war. But God gave me a gift and kept me alive and a way out to America. The land of opportunities and new ideas manufacturers.
I’ve made up my mind to take the opportunity to provide for myself, and my family and reduce poverty in Liberia by introducing new ideas.
Why does this bring me happiness? Two reasons 1. Making a living doing what I love. 2. No one is coming to save us as a human species. we have to save ourselves.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an actor first, my goal is to be Africa‘s action actor on the big screen. I think what set me apart is – I’m going to leave Set and put on my African design cowboy boots and hit the road with my music. I am proud of not giving up and I am excited about facing all my fears with nothing to lose. I got here by putting in the useful hard work believing in myself and speaking into existence exactly what I want and of course my supporters and God. Nothing should be looked at as easy or hard is just work. things are considered to be easy or hard when you’re not doing what you love but when you’re doing what you love it doesn’t matter. So it doesn’t matter to me. I can train all day in Martial Art, Fitness, practice my Nunchuck and Bo staff and at night go to the recording studio come back, and jump on Google Documents to develop the storyline to my up-and-coming feature film titled “fighting cancer”. My point is when you love something, it keeps you awake because even when you’re sleeping you’re dreaming about it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
To be honest I don’t go out much anymore. Most of my time I spent pursuing my career, developing my craft, and with my daughters and Business partners, and working a 9-to-5 job that’s keeping me afloat.
One place I do go to clear my mind is right down the street from where I live in Decatur is called BunnAmour Bar & Lounge, which is an Ethiopian lounge. Great Atmosphere.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My deceased grandmother raised me for most of my life. My parents for doing the best they can. The mother of my two beautiful girls. When the Journey gets tough my daughters keep me going.
My business partners Nathan and Ben Walters, are My brothers. Marlon Hargrave my Mentor and Acting coach. Robert Peters, an African Filmmaker he’s like a big brother to me. He’s been very supportive of me. Bobby Huntley – A filmmaker in Atlanta. He gave me a film role that put my face in front of some of the heroes in Cinema, and more to come. And my daughter’s grandfather, Raxton Thomas he’s been nothing but helps in providing a safe environment for my girls when I’m out in the trenches.
I am an artist, perfecting my art is my calling.
