We had the good fortune of connecting with Diego Pacheco and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Diego, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always been artistically inclined, as I grew up in a creative family with an Artist Mother and Architect Father. I was exposed to the Art World at a very young age. I found my passion and creativity over the years and learned to develop my skill through courses and practice. When I was attending University for Visual Arts I became interested in Body Painting and Makeup because my good friend was an up and coming Makeup Artist at the time. We would collaborate on models and paint each other for fun, that’s really where my passion and inspiration with makeup was sparked! Since then I decided to pursue a full time career in Makeup by attending Blanche MacDonald Centre where I took their Global Makeup Program. It opened new doors to a professional world I had only dreamed of before!

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I started out as more of a visual artist. I took my undergraduate degree in Fine Arts at Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver, B.C. where I grew up. In Art School I was most focused on oil painting and making ceramic sculptures at the time and really found inspiration in Nature, Symbolism and vibrant colour schematics inspired by my Mexican heritage. Self Expression for me takes form through a variety of different mediums which in the past have included photography, poetry, dance and performance art, sculpture and even teaching yoga. I travelled the world after Art School and had to learned about not making rash decisions and to carefully think things through before acting. I was definitely a wild and free spirit on an adventure, but didn’t always plan things out with care, and eventually I had to face some lessons and learn to settle down, that all good things take hard work, dedication and planning. Overall I’m grateful for all I’ve experienced and accomplished. The best thing you can do for yourself is to never give up! Keep aspiring to create and fuel yourself through your art. I’ve always loved people and connecting with other creatives, that definitely helped me to go far in Makeup because through collaborations and networking I’ve been able to meet some inspiring people and do some incredible things!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Vancouver, Canada which is an incredibly beautiful place. The mountains, trees and ocean surrounds the whole city and it is a beautiful place to live or visit. If you like hiking we’ll definitely have to take a trip up some of the local mountains to get our fitness on, breathe in some of the fresh mountain air, and see some spectacular views and wildlife. I would also recommend going for a walk around the famous Stanley Park (one of the largest urban parks in North America) and visiting the iconic English Bay. Davie Street isn’t far either which is the heart of the queer community here, and has some great shops, restaurants and clubs. Main Street is also a fun vibe with many boutique shops, fusion foods and thrift stores which I’ve found some wonderful fashions at! We would definitely have to go the Vancouver Art Gallery to see some of the famous Emily Carr collections, and take in some new contemporary art with their rotating exhibitions. Also the Museum of Anthropology is a great place to visit and learn more about the West Coast Indigenous culture and their art and history.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My great supporters so far have been my colleagues and peers in the Makeup Industry. I would like to shoutout Indea from V.I.F.F. Fashion for supporting me and giving me some great opportunities to work backstage in the world of fashion makeup with some amazing models and MUA’s. Thanks to her support I’ve been able to grow in my skill as a Makeup Artist and meet so many amazing connections which have helped me further my career. It was truly the experience of a lifetime and a huge dream of mine to work internationally in the fashion scene.
