We had the good fortune of connecting with Diana Alford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diana, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born and raised in Mexico city. I love the diversity and the culture of my country so much. With endless cultural events, historical sites, cuisine, traditions and so many places to explore, Mexico City was the perfect place for me to grow up in. Being hispanic is a huge part of who I am and I am proud to carry on the traditions, language and love for Mexico with my family. I love living in Marietta so much, far from the busy hustle of a huge city, but I love being able to visit Mexico any chance I get!
I am without a doubt an extrovert, and I love learning about new cultures and backgrounds and sharing mine anytime I have a chance. Being a photographer, I am so thankful to be able to meet amazing families from all different nationalities, backgrounds and ethnicities and being able to be a tiny part of their story means so much to me.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My favorite part about being a photographer, aside from meeting amazing people is letting my artistic side flow. I love having an idea in my head and being able to bring it to life. Sometimes it takes months of getting it right in my head before I attempt it in real life, others I just go with it in the spur of the moment!
In my family photography business, what I enjoy the most is photographing a connection, a feeling, en emotion. I love the way little kids look at their parents, the way mom and dad look at each other, the way everyone laughs together.
In my dance photography business, I love capturing a powerful moment, an expression, the grace and beauty of dancers and being able to create art together!
Getting to where I am today has been a journey, one filled with learning and experiences, a lot of trial and error and always remembering to be kind on myself to be able to forgive mistakes, learn from them and keep moving forward. Friends, mentors and family have played a huge part of my learning experience and where I am today and couldn’t have done it without them! Overall this has been one amazing journey where I keep learning and growing everyday.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am all about my family and my kids! So if my best friend comes with her kids, I would take them to all the places we love, mostly outdoors in nature! We could walk around Marietta square, explore some hiking trails, maybe go to the lake and just enjoy our time together!
Alright, so let’s jump right in! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there a person, group, organization, book, etc. that you want to dedicate your shoutout to? Who else deserves a little credit and recognition in your story?
I am a self-taught professional photographer, and if I would have to thank anybody in this process it would have to be my husband. He is the one who believed in me right from the start, when I was absolutely clueless about what I was doing. It has been a long process to get where I am today, and my husband has been my rock and my biggest cheerleader along the way. He is still my biggest support and my helper when I need an extra hand in my business. I honestly couldn’t have done this without him.
