We had the good fortune of connecting with Diamond Hunt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Diamond, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
The end goal for me is to build my own creative marketing agency. I am really an outside the box person, that’s probably why it was hard for me to really work for others. It was the big push I needed to become an entrepreneur. I want to build this marketing agency that focuses more on the creative side of marketing. To me, social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook have really changed the way consumers think and shop so it is important to me that we as business owners meet the consumers where they are! I wouldn’t just focus on typical marketing techniques, but actually go into the field with my clients, source locations, models, props for shoots and even creative direct! I want it to be a one stop shop for business owners.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I always wanted to be my own boss! I knew at a young age working for someone just wasn’t for me. Honestly, my idea for Limelight came to me while I was at work at 19 years old! I knew it had to be something I was passionate about and since I was a little girl, Fashion was my everything. Starting a business at 19 wasn’t easy at all. Social media was just beginning to become a place where people promoted their businesses so I had to really gain the trust of hundreds of strangers. At one point I began to get discouraged, I wasn’t selling things for weeks and it kind of made me feel like a failure. It wasn’t until I got to college and relaunched my business during spring break, that’s when I knew I was on to something! One lesson I learned is what I like to call the 3 Ps (Passion, Purpose, Paycheck). There will be sometimes where all three of those are completely aligned and there will be times when they aren’t, you have to allow your passion and your purpose to continue to be your reason why. That is what I always tell people going into business. Don’t do it because you see someone else doing it and they’re making money, do it because you’re passionate about it or it’s a part of your purpose.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It’s so funny to me because when I was in college, all of my friends would want to go to Coney Island! In Detroit, they are EVERYWHERE! That would be the first spot I would take them and I would make them try all the favorites; coney dog, chili cheese fries, chicken pita and whatever else they wanted to try! I would definitely take them downtown, especially in the summer, right by our casino is a strip of clubs and restaurants so nightlife here is pretty lit so Society, Level Two, and Delmar are pretty cool! Being me, whenever I go to a new place, I want to see the mall so I would definitely take them to a few malls around the city, Somerset would probably be the best mall for like designer fashions but if you’re looking for quick boutique fits, definitely Fairlane Mall or Bella Vamier!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Crystal Brown, my mentor/big sister created her own natural hair care line and has been a huge success. One thing I love about her story is how she started her business because of her mother. Her mother has lupus and she saw what it was doing to her self confidence. She wanted to see her smile and have that confidence again. Now she’s doing it for women all across the world!
