We had the good fortune of connecting with Diamond Dondada and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diamond, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
As a music artist and entrepreneur, I’ve learned several valuable lessons. I honestly can’t say that one is more important than the other, I just have to abide by each lesson when necessary. A few but not all of those lessons are as follows.
Black creators don’t get enough credit. I learned that no matter how hard you work, you need to work ten times harder being an African American. Also, you more than likely won’t finish with the people you started with because folks will change for someone new or for a few dollars. The change may be temporary but once they choose sides it’s imperative that you never allow them back into your space.
God’s timing is the best so patience and faith is key. Sometimes we rush things without knowing that God is protecting us from what we cannot see at the moment. I myself am grateful for all the many lessons. There’s no way I can fit each lesson into this paragraph for the list is never ending.
One of the best lessons is that, whatever you decide to do in life, make sure you do it for you and no one else. You deserve everything in store for you. Chasing success for your family, friends, kids, etc will leave you disappointed once you realize no one has your back like you. You can lose sleep for people and spend your last dime investing in a better life for yall and they’ll still say “no one asked you to” or they’ll still support strangers more than they support you. So I’ll leave y’all with this: Put God first and put yourself second, anything else that’s worth it will come.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love creating music. It helps me not only express myself but also tell my Story. What sets me apart from other artists is the fact that I don’t listen to other female rappers so it’s easy for me to be all original. Once you listen to someone too much you begin to sound, dress and act just like them, sometimes unknowingly. As of May 2023, I’m considered a global artist being that over 500K people have used my music across social media. Per Muso.AI I’m at 400 Million social media plays. I am where I am because of God, my great talent, my high vibration and my supporters. Nothing is really easy in life but it’s not the hardest thing ever. Everything boils down to the way you think and to keep life simple, I’ve learned to be okay if things work out or if they don’t.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite place to be is in nature, simple and to the point. I’d choose water, land and trees any day. The peace and healing it provides is top tier. I however can’t give up my favorite spot, they have to find their own (haha)
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
