Meet Devonte Whitmore | Fashion Designer & Event Curator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Devonte Whitmore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Devonte, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe the most important factor is to be that person for my family to leave a business behind that we can call ours. No matter what my son, younger sisters, etc know that this business or businesses is for us. Also, to show the world and people period you don’t have to settle, you don’t have to be at a job that you not happy at all your life. You can literally find a way to make a career out of something you love doing.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I don’t really look at other creatives and such as competition. I try to congratulate, support, help and spread the knowledge because it’s a lot of creatives doing what I do. I guess if anything you can say a lot of people don’t try to spread the knowledge and such that may be a thing that set me apart.. I’m just proud of all these things that’s happening being apart of New York Fashion Week and making my own platform “Streetwear Fashion Week” and just being proud of the journey and support and future plans.
I got here by networking, researching and putting the work in. You want to get better and better at your craft so you don’t want things to be too easy. It’s all a journey, but for me I love it all. So it becomes easy because you love it so much. The process and the end game of each design or project.
There’s always hard challenges but I believe mixing business with personal. I say that because sometimes your friends and family is more difficult than working with someone you just met.

I want the world to know that Trapcessful is for everybody. Everyone have struggles and everyone needs to overcome those struggles. That’s what my brand represents.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We a definitely go to one of my favorite spots Xperience Lounge. We might try to catch a hawks game or concert at Mercedes Benz Stadium

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Mom I really can’t say it enough. She aloud me to try different things and experience different things. That allowed me to think outside the box. For instance in school her telling me like you don’t want to dress like everybody else try different colors and such. So that’s how yellow became my favorite color to wear. This was way back in middle school.
