We had the good fortune of connecting with Devon Mellor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Devon, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We wanted to create a calm, safe, and inclusive environment for body modifications – something we felt was seriously lacking within our community. We want everyone who walks through our doors to feel welcome and recognized, regardless of race, gender, orientation, or sexual preference.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
3 Ravens is body modification studio located in the heart of downtown Athens, Georgia. We pride ourselves on our attention to inclusivity. Regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation, everyone that walks is made to feel comfortable and welcome. Both my husband and I have worked in the industry for 20+ years. We’ve experienced first-hand the consequences of toxic tattoo and body modification studio environments and saw a need for a studio environment that takes inclusivity seriously – both for our clients/community and employees. From decorations, music, to the way clients are greeted as soon as they walk in the door, we prioritize an inclusive environment.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Athens is a well-known and popular college town. However, the University of Georgia is only a small fragment of our community. The music and art scenes are vibrant, as are the options for cuisine. From 5 star chefs, a wide array of Mexican and South American restaurants, to vegan and vegetarian restaurants, we rival larger cities. We also enjoy several breweries, cocktail bars, coffee shops, and even a kava bar. With many artists residing in Athens, many businesses open their walls for artists to display their work. Thousand Faces is a studio favorite for coffee and art! Athens is also home to several indie labels and bands with international recognition. Of special note is the tree that owns itself and the Bear Hollow Zoo, a rehabilitation center with the cutest otters.
