We had the good fortune of connecting with Devin Barbee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Devin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

Starting my own business was my way of giving back and controlling the narrative. It actually was not about the monetary gain rather the impact I could have on expanding my brand. I wanted to reach more people and becoming my own boss was my ticket in doing so.

My road to becoming an entrepreneur was not very easy, I got discouraged a lot. My mother told me, “you will always succeed if you stick to “why” you started your business”. Being that I was in radio, acting and modeling on the side I made the decision to use that as my foundation to get more exposure.

When starting my mink lash company, I aimed to provide high-quality products and tap into the beauty industry’s demand. Simultaneously, establishing a non-profit for women empowerment reflected my commitment to social impact, aiming to support and uplift women through various initiatives. Both ventures aligned with my passion for entrepreneurship and making a positive difference.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

Balancing multiple businesses, a radio show, and a career in acting and modeling require careful time management and versatility. It comes with a lot of highs and lows; and even set backs. In the beginning my biggest challenge was believing in myself.

I have grown to love myself and I’m proud to lead a diverse business portfolio. My journey wasn’t without challenges, but overcoming them taught me valuable lessons in resilience and adaptability. Each venture reflects my passion for entrepreneurship and making a positive difference in the world.

I take pride in the unique blend of beauty and empowerment my brand represents. It’s not just a business; it’s a force for positive change, promoting empowerment and beauty in various forms. I’m excited about the impact I’ve made so far and look forward to continued growth and positive influence.

My newest project is my self affirmations available on all platforms. “Ready, Set, Goals”. By Devin Barbee

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Well I’m a foodie and Atlanta has so many good places to choose from. First we would go to “breakfast at Barney’s” yummy.

Then hit up ponce city market more good food but some nice stores to shop in as well. My favorite place there is “Bar vegan”.

Next we have to walk on the Beltline trail; it’s so peaceful.

Dinner would be between “Rock Steady” or “Two Urban licks”.

And last but not least “Tiki Bar” in Downtown Decatur. The drinks are fire literally they light them on fire.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out my husband, Gyasi Thurmon. He is my biggest support, and when I say support I mean he pushes me to go the extra mile for my self. A wise person said “ a man that loves you is great, but a man that can make you love yourself, well that’s true love”.
