Meet Destiny Renee: Actress, Teaching Artist and Poet.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Destiny Renee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Destiny, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Well in the performance and teaching artist world I technically AM the business! My thought process was to share my light and gifts to the world. Why hold it in when I was born with the purpose to give myself to others freely. I’ve known that I wanted to be an actress since I was a child and a professional teacher since I graduated college. Not everyone has access to the light the way I do, it is a pleasure to be tasked with helping others to find theirs. Ultimately I would like to bring theatre programs and shows to underserved communities around the world!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is constantly evolving! As a young artist I thought that being an actress was the end all be all of my career. I’m happy to say that I see myself as so much more now. I am first and foremost a performer at heart, I have been in front of an audience as far back as I can remember. But since moving to Atlanta back in 2015 I have acknowledged for myself and my brand that I am a multifaceted creator. I also write poetry, devise new theatre, paint, make short films, model and I can see myself owning a production company in the future as well. I truly feel like the sky is the limit when it comes to my determination and passion, I’m excited to see how everything merges together in the years to come. Since working professionally, I’ve learned that connections are constantly being made even if you can’t see them at the exact moment that they happen. Things always come around full circle so remaining patient and focused on building your foundation as an artist is key. I don’t audition often which to most actors is a big no no, we are taught that auditioning is a part of the gig and is the only way to “make it”. I don’t agree, I only audition or work on projects that I am deeply connected to and that challenge me as a performer. Most of the work that I am proud of has been a collaborative effort, an effort of self discovery or something that has been offered to me based off of previous connections and the merit of my work. I do not think that this career is easy by any means, it is not for the weak and you have to love it! My advice would be to make it your own and don’t conform to what “should be”.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh fun question, however I’m a little bit of a homebody haha! That being said I always bring visitor to the Westside Beltline Trail, specifically the west side, it’s a hidden gem that is not as populated. After about a 4 mile walk you can head over to the local breweries and grab a drink with your buddies. My absolute favorite restaurant is Tuk Tuk Thai Loft! I bring family, friends and clients there, I also celebrate special occasions there as well. The ambiance is out of this world and authentic to the Thai culture, the food is just delicious you literally cannot go wrong ordering anything from the menu AND its affordable. It just doesn’t get any better for me. Lastly I would bring my loved ones to The Sound Table in Edgewood. There you will find an eclectic mix of people, signature drinks, food and the best house/r&b music to create a wonderful vibe for the night.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout my home theatre here in Atlanta, 7 Stages! They have truly nurtured me as a creative and mentored me as a teaching artist, I am happy to announce that I have become their new Education Director. I appreciate them to the moon and back, I would not feel so deeply rooted in the Atlanta arts without them.
