We had the good fortune of connecting with Destiny Iris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Destiny, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I thought, am I crazy? What if I do all of this and it doesn’t work. Or I fail. Self-doubted a lot

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m most proud of my consistency & motivation to want to grow. When I decided to open up my salon we just got hit with the pandemic is 2020. I’m a lash tech so since I’m not an essential worker I had to figure out other ways to make money to invest into my salon. My salon had to be fully renovated when we first got the place it was a dump. Me, my business partner and her husband built that salon from the ground up by ourselves. I’m so proud looking back at the nights I stood babysitting & doing Uber eats and getting a job at Walgreens just so I can pay for the construction & bills at the salon. On top of paying for my own personal bills. It was really rough, there was times I wanted to give up, sleepless night, crying while I’m tearing down old walls. But to see how far along we got is such a blessing and a reminder to never give up.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First off I would take them to my salon because we offer so much there and I just love making people feel beautiful about themselves. So I would definitely glam up my girl. Then my favorite thing to do is go downtown new haven and eat at via or te amo tequila great food, music & so many different people plus it’s also the home of Yale university. Another thing I love is outdoors, I love doing active things like hikes & bike rides, especially anything I can do to bring my puppy along I love a long hike with my dog 🤎
