We had the good fortune of connecting with Destinie White and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Destinie, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I’ve always heard, “some of the biggest decisions that you will ever make, you will have to make scared.” That statement is so true. We as people love the feeling of comfort. We get used to having a routine and being in control of our plans. However, growth becomes very limited with comfort. Taking a leap of faith is much easier said than done. Being a risk taker is very scary because you don’t know what’s waiting on the other side. Taking risks and being afraid has truly molded me into a brave young woman. A few years ago, I would’ve been afraid to put myself out there and become a creator or a podcast host. The ride has been fun, scary, overwhelming at times, but I wouldn’t change a thing.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So, my thing has always been media. Growing up, writing was my favorite pastime. In school, I was always involved in some sort of creative writing or journalism course. When I attended college, it just continued and I found my love for broadcasting and media journalism. People have always said I had a natural talent of storytelling and making people laugh and that I was creative. Right after I graduated, I faced a small challenge of not wanting to do the traditional type of news, but I wanted to dive into entertainment. A brief period of post-grad depression came over me for some months, but I got through it. I began writing for magazines and fell back in love with writing. Last year during the first quarantine lockdown, I began researching about podcasts and instantly fell in love with that too. It’s been interesting and fun discovering passions I didn’t know I had and also rediscovering old ones I never stopped loving.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a funny question only because, I come from a semi small city in Louisiana. I was born and raised in Alexandria and there’s not a whole lot to do. There’s a few restaurants, a zoo, a mall, a movie theater and some small shops, but that’s about it. I always joke and say it’s a good city for retirement. However, knowing my best friends, we all love to shop and eat. So we would for sure hit up the mall and some of the local shops and head to a Mexican restaurant. I suppose we could check out the zoo as well. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve been blessed with an amazing community of people who have been supporting me from the beginning. My mom, my grandma, extended family and friends have played major roles in my life. Some of the biggest and craziest ideas have come into this head of mine and they were all there listening. Social media has also played a positive role as well. People that I may not know personally beyond Instagram or Facebook have always shown me love and support. However, I have to give all of my recognition and gratitude to God. He’s shown me things, given me ideas and strength that I didn’t know I was capable of having.
