We had the good fortune of connecting with Destin Andrews and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Destin, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risk can play a different role in different lives . Some risks may be harder then others. In my life taking risk has played a significant role for me as a artist. I realized believe it or not that in order to be successful or on your path to success you will have to take some risk. That can be trying something new, putting more time in your passion, investments, etc. Before I started my professional art career taking risk was one of my first lessons. I was just starting as a Caricature artist and have been practicing for a couple months now not knowing when I would make my first sell or if I was good enough, but my trainer just told me to just start, I had enough practice. I was nervous and not sure how I would do or if the customer would like and buy the drawing but the main thing to realize is that I started and even better, I made my first sell. So sometimes you got to take a leap of faith to follow your dreams and find your true passion.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Right now as a Artist I am constantly evolving and thinking of unique ways to express my artistic vision for the world to see and feel. It’s hard to explain but my art is inspired by futuristic aesthetics, colors, music, and fashion all mixed in one in my own way. I have a lot I want to do and create for people to see and designs for people to wear, my view on the universe may be different but I know there are people out there that can relate. That’s why currently I’m working on a lot of projects for people to see because a world with out art is boring.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am very down to earth and laid back, but love to have a good time. A go to spot that is always a good time is at ponce city market skyline and the beltine, it’s tons of art to see and beautiful place to have conversations and start your day off. I am a seafood lover and there is a restaurant called six feet under which is a place I highly recommend. To end off the night I love to roller skate and I feel like even if your not the best at it, it’s impossible to not have fun when you go skating with your friends at cascade. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have a lot of people and other things that inspire me and that have helped me in my path to success, but shout out to all of my families support and all of my artist friends and inspirations. But what started it all and really encouraged me to continue art was my family at a very young age.
