We had the good fortune of connecting with Desmond Ross and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Desmond, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to create a legacy for my son to inherit and a brand that would impact everyone to make positive changes in their lives. I started with the children’s book resembling him and highlighting a black boy making positive changes in a world in need. At the same time, I began creating my apparel line with different variations of MACT or Make A Change Today at the forefront of the clothing. The goal is for my son to be the listed as the owner once he turns 18 years old. As him and the company grow, I will teach him the importance of business, entrepreneurship and the impact of positive changes in our communities.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My company is Make A Change Today LLC and the brand is MACT. MACT. is a lifestyle-brand centered on positivity, self-love and uplifting of our communities. The overall mission is to inspire and champion positive change in our everyday lives. We sell apparel, a children’s book and plan to have unique events in the future. I want this brand to really inspire everyone to continue to strive for greatness in whatever you do whether it’s working out more, being a better parent, doing good for your community etc. I am very passionate about this brand as I want it to be household name one day.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I was raised in the DMV area and currently reside in northern VA. I would take my best friend out to D.C. and Arlington to hang out. For me, it is the people from the DMV area are what makes it a great place to live or hang out. Of course, there are tons of happy hour spots or eating spots to choose from. We would visit several spots on U Street, H Street and in Georgetown. I like the chill lounge type of vibes nowadays. Additionally, there are so many museums we would visit during the day such as the MLKJ memorial, Tomb of the unknown, National Air & Space museum and African American Museum. I am a big Washington Wizards fan as well so we would definitely attend a game.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout my family for their unconditional love and encouragement in my life. They have always motivated me to take on challenges and strive to be successful as an entrepreneur.
