Meet Desiree Shields

We had the good fortune of connecting with Desiree Shields and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Desiree, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued an artistic and creative career because I am naturally a creative person. I love anything art! Whether it’s fashion, decor, pottery, etc. I feel like being a creative person has allowed me to express myself in different ways. I am able to channel my emotions, and express them by being artistic. I was able to choose my career path because I love making people feel beautiful, on theme, and encouraging other people to be able to express themselves in every way they’re comfortable in doing so.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Professional, Certified makeup artist. I love my artistry because it isn’t just an appointment it is an experience, it’s a session. I come in contact with so many women who deal with day to day life and for that hour and some change, I get to interact with my client and just allow them to be seen, heard, and pampered. My goal is to make every woman feel beautiful, luxurious, poured into, and peace all while maintaining her beauty needs. As a mom, I know how it feels to pour into everybody else’s cup and yours is half empty. In my profession, I want all my clients to feel seen, and beautiful. I’m super excited for what’s to come in my business, I recently had to start all over with my business and it has been challenging, rewarding, overwhelming, stressful, every emotion you can think of. But I know there’s bigger in store for me! I am currently looking to begin my journey in esthetics, by earning my license, and then continuing on to obtain a bachelors in nursing to be able to offer different services in the beauty world. Facials, Botox, fillers, everything beauty! I’m putting my best foot forward, doing the groundwork, and doing everything I need to do to get to where I want to be. Right now I have my salon suite where I take clients, but like I stated more is to come. I have my moments where I do feel overstimulated, but I just have to remember how far I’ve already come, and I refuse to turn back or give up. I cant give up on my dream.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is such a fun question for me because I also make lifestyle content, when it comes to places to eat such as restaurants, and lounges. But I personally love a nice restaurant that offers hookah. I love Pasha, great food, drinks, and the ambiance is gorgeous. Whether it’s a lunch date or dinner cant go wrong. I like Octopus kitchen as well. Kabob land when it’s nice outside, but even when it’s not, you can not go wrong with their food! I do a lot of solo happy hour dates as well, STK, SeaSalt, and Cavo. I dont really go to the club unless it’s a celebration of some sort.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This may sound very cliche, but my family my support. When I decided to take my artistry seriously, and actually do it as a job/career, my family supported it. My mom allowed me to take clients at the time for high school prom in the living room because she believed in the vision. My dad always supported the fact of me wanting to become an entrepreneur, and he spoke about me in every room he entered, bragging on his daughter. When I became a mom, my fiancé pushed me and supported me to take clients full time, at the house until I was able to find a salon home. My close friends pushed my business by shouting me out, and telling a friend to tell a friend. God and my family are my support group. And none of it would be possible without them. I am super grateful and appreciative for the people that are in my corner.
