We had the good fortune of connecting with Dese Zuberi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dese, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
The major social impact that we have is offering health-conscious food to our community. This overall improves the health and vitality of our community. We also participate in community programs that serve food to communities furthest removed from healthier food options. We also sponsor community events that promotes health & social , for example, yoga classes, cooking courses, voting drives, community drives.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Zubi’s Taco Kitchen is a local restaurant that provides mexican-inspired fare with an urban twist. What distinguishes us from other restaurants is that we use tortillas as a canvas to create tacos that combines flavors from around the world. For example, we make indian daal tacos, jamaican spices for a jerk tofu,/chicken taco or a traditional shredded chicken taco. We started as a food truck two years ago and have since grown to a take-out restaurant in College Park, GA. Our two biggest challenges have been overcoming the Covid-!9 pandemic, that limited business traffic for our 1st year in operation. And developing a solid marketing plan on a limited budget.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’d eat at Alma Cocina, Tuk Tuk Thai Food Loft, Six Feet Under, and Tassili’s Raw Reality. We’d definitely check out Ponce City Market Rooftop,The Aquarium, The Ferris Wheel The Yard( Ice Cream). We’d hang out at Piedmont Park, Walk the Beltline, drink beer & seltzer at Scofflaw Brewery.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Kali Sterling from Press Bar Salons. She’s my sister and confidant that was instrumental in our early developmental process.
