We had the good fortune of connecting with Derrinique McNear and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Derrinique, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I grew up struggling with low self-esteem problems really bad. I didn’t think I was pretty, or my body appearance wasn’t good enough compared to other young girls when I was growing up. My younger self inspired me in so many ways when I think about it. If I knew then what I know now, I would have told myself it is okay not to look like everyone. We are all different for a reason and I am beautiful inside and outside. I would like to tell all ladies regardless of age and race that you are good enough. You are different and made to stand out from everyone else. Don’t let society determine how you suppose to look on the outside. Love yourself and everything about you. This includes the color of your skin, your hair color and length, your thin or thick eyebrows, color of your eyes, the shape of nose, ears, lips, straight or crooked teeth. Do not and I mean do not let your body size define you as being “Good Enough”. I can remember growing up and being heavy and not understanding why my sister and friends were smaller than me. I used to get joked on because of my size and that made me not love myself. I felt ashamed and not pretty. Now that I am older, I know my size and looks do not define who I am. I love every part of me. I am not perfect nor do I wish to be. God created me in His own image thus I am unique. I would like to tell all women (young or old) who have been in my shoes or going thru something now. Queen hold your head up and fix your crown because you are Beautiful and Unique.

What should our readers know about your business?
Deri’s Beauty Collection was created to help people of all shades of color to feel good about themselves. Deri’s cater to all who would like to experience good quality and hypoallergenic products. I am so excited about sharing my brand and vision with the world. I did a lot of praying, strategic planning and research of different products. My journey has not been easy because I failed several times but I never gave up. Each time I came back with a different mindset until finally I came across the right people and products to help make Deri’s Beauty Collection come to Fruition. Always Follow Your Dream and Never Give Up!!!!!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Downtown Montgomery has been renovated to appeal to both young and old. We have a variety of venues. If you have small kids, we have family friendly restaurants, the Montgomery Biscuits ballpark, outdoor splash pad and coming in the near future a water park. For the older crowds, we have several bars with local bands playing at night, Harriett Riverboat and several Civil Rights sites and Museums.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The first shoutout would be God because without Him there would be no me. He helped me with patience and placing the right people in my life to help make my dream a reality. The second shoutout would be my family and love ones. They have always supported me emotionally, spiritually and financially. I would like to shoutout Dr. Nikki Zeigler, Founder of The Herpernuer Network. She encouraged and mentored me when I showed her I was serious about taking my business to the next level. I also would like to shoutout Dia Smith my creative Director for taking my vision from paper to photoshoot. Shoutout to the ladies who modeled my products on my website. Last but definitely not least, 3GVision the photographer and Senub M. Rah the videographer. You both are The G.O.A.T!!!! I want to personally say thank you SHOUTOUT ATLANTA for allowing me the opportunity to introduce myself to the world. Thank you Everybody for helping me become a BOSS LADY!!!!
