We had the good fortune of connecting with Derika Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Derika, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Leaving a Legacy for my generations to come.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career is to help and educate people, while doing that it can be trying. I love helping my clients who thought home ownership wasn’t possible for them just to realize at the closing table it was. I let each client know this is a journey and I am all in with them on either side of the transaction. I got here by being around people smarter than me. Nothing is easy that’s worth having. I have good people around that reached out to me when they saw I wasn’t showing up. They advise me to different options they can help me. My kids are my biggest supporters and they pushes me. When things doesn’t go as plans I take time to reflex to see what I could have done differently to have a more positive outcome. It took a while for me to come to that point in life howeverI had to reset my mind. Some of the lessons I have learn on the way is be open to different perspective but guard your morals, become a chameleons, and always to be willing to grow. My brand and I care about relationship with people and I am a HUGE SAINTS FAN.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a home body so it will be limited places I would take anyone. A good place for me to eat is Hugo’s Oyster Bar since it reminds me of home in NOLA for their char-grilled oysters. I love to take a walk at Tribble Mill Park on that trail. Only time I really go hang out is during football season that usually at Taco Mac in downtown Decatur and I also like going to Halcyon in Alpharetta.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The agents here at Keller Williams Atlanta Partners S. Forysth office. The leadership on down have been great. Books: Atomic Habits, Millionaire Real Estate Agent, Grit,Soundtracks, etc. Overall I would say my professor (Dr. Adrine Harrell-Cater) and Dean (Dr. Igwe Udeh) from SUNO (Southern University at New Orleans) have help me stay on track.
