We had the good fortune of connecting with Dennis Morton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dennis, what’s the most important think you’ve done for your children?
The most important thing I have done as a parent is simply being there for my child. Rather it be long talks at night about life, Listening to her as far as boys or “relationships”, or even having the heart to heart talks about sexual activities. Always have an open mind and let your children know that they can always come to you regardless of what the conversation may pertain. That will always build a solid foundation between you and your child.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
To me my work is one of determination, creativity, angles, and passion. I consider myself to be a dark shooter. Meaning I look at images that could potentially be very bright and energetic and create a more sinister look to them. What sets me apart from other photographers is that I look for small items and images and do my best to bring those images to the forefront rather than focusing on one of the main objects in the frame. I got here today professionally by determination and pushing myself to be better in all aspects of photography. Not giving up on images or learning new techniques that could potentially be challenging for most people. It wasn’t easy but it’s a must that you hold yourself accountable on missed assignments given to yourself. If you give yourself a project and it doesn’t get completed in time or how you would like it done then you have to hold yourself accountable. The worst thing you can do is tell somebody you can’t do something when it pertains to photography or anything in life for that matter. If you are not a “portrait photographer” and someone asked to to take there family photos and you tell them “no”, In my eyes you’ve just lost a customer and potentially missed out on opportunities in the future. So my advice to all young up-and-coming photographers to well vested photographers, be well-versed in all aspects of photography. SHOOT EVERYTHING !! Which is my clothing line. ShootEverything is simply my way of expressing all aspects of photography and artistic creativity.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you ever come to Atlanta some of the best places to capture images would be centennial park or anywhere in that area. The downtown area is always great. It gives you the opportunity for street photography and landscape photography. There’s some of the good places to eat if you like pizza would be a place called Slim and Husky”. It’s a premier spot for myself my close friends. With me being from Philadelphia there’s also a great place called “Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks” Trust me it’s worth every bite.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The persons/organization I’d like to shout out would be my daughter, My best friend/brother Gerald Irvin, Mrs. Connie Cross and a huge shout out to the dopest !!! most prolific!!!, astonishing!!!, and humbled photography crew in Atlanta Georgia “CrewthickATL”. All of the persons and organizations mentioned serves a huge part in my development and artistic creativity.
