We had the good fortune of connecting with Denisha McCauley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Denisha, how does your business help the community?
Denisha McCauley Photography provides an intimate portrait experience for everyday women designed uniquely for them. I help uplift and empower women by capturing their moments that exude confidence, beauty, and strength. I also support women-owned businesses by providing brand design as well as photos.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Denisha McCauley is a luxury portrait photographer that provides magazine worthy photos for the everyday woman. When shooting portraits, I want every woman to feel bold, empowered, and beautiful. My goal is to bring out the best in every woman I photograph. I am successful today because of hard work and dedication. It hasn’t been a cake walk. I failed the first time I decided to leave corporate America and pursue entrepreneurship. I had to put my pride to the side and go back to the workforce. I worked for about a year and a half, then I decided to go for it again. This time, I haven’t looked back. I had to get a mentor, put systems in place, understand the cost of doing business, hone my craft, and rebrand myself.

Lessons I have learned:
1. Keep God first.
2. Stay true to yourself.
3. Understand your target audience.
4. Find your tribe.

I want the world to know that I DO THIS! I take pride in my work, whether it is photos,
branding, or graphics. I never want to stop learning and growing in my business, so I always
take classes to stay on top of my game. I am true to my work! I love seeing women win! I
want to help other women out here, whether they are starting businesses or if they need a
shoot to boost up their confidence. I am going to be their biggest hype woman.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly, I am a homebody so I like to be at home with my family. However, I do love to eat good food! So, for a nice steak, I would take them to Jeff Ruby’s . If they wanted some soul
food and good drinks, we could go Dasha’s Barbour. Lastly, for a good cheeseburger and
some fries we would visit Southern Hospitality.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The person I want to dedicate my shoutout to is my husband, Isiah. He has been there since I birthed the business and has seen all of the late nights, the crying, the hard work, and the
investments I have made behind scenes. I can honestly say that I wouldn’t be where I am
today without the love, support, and partnership we have as a couple.
