We had the good fortune of connecting with Denasia Lawrence and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Denasia, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Bringing people joy and love truly makes me happy. Whether it’s curating a musical experience through DJing, using my voice on the mic, or guiding a movement practice on the yoga mat, I feel happiest when I’m creating moments that make others smile and feel good. I believe one of my purposes in life is to spread love and joy using my gifts—to help people unplug from the chaos of the world, reconnect with themselves, and be fully present with the people and experiences that matter. Seeing others light up in those moments fills me with deep gratitude and happiness.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a vocalist, DJ, and certified yoga instructor. I got to where I am today through a mix of connection, persistence, and simply putting myself out there. Networking and community have played a big role. I’ve had people in my corner who believed in me early on, whether it was helping me get my first DJ controller, sharing speakers, or even providing me with thousands of music files to start building my library. That kind of support made a huge difference.
Of course, the journey hasn’t been easy. There have been challenges, doubts, and times I had to push through uncertainty. But my deep love for music and the way it connects us all, keeps me going. Practicing yoga also helps me stay grounded. It’s a tool I use not just to manage stress, but to stay present and work through whatever life throws at me. I’m a curator, a connector, and someone who creates meaningful experiences through both music and movement. What really sets me apart is my ability to genuinely connect with people. Whether I’m behind the DJ booth, on the mic, or leading a yoga class, I create a space where people feel seen, welcomed, and like we’ve known each other forever—kind of like your favorite cousin at the family cookout.

When it comes to my brand, I want the world to know that it’s rooted in authenticity, intention, and love. Every set I spin, every class I lead, every performance I give—it’s all about creating moments that matter. I’m here to help people reconnect with joy, celebrate themselves, and feel something real.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Okay, being transparent… I’m not someone who’s always out, so I don’t really have a ton of go-to city spots. However, I do love nature and good vibes. I’d definitely take them to Roswell Mill to sit by the waterfall and enjoy the peace of being in nature. Or we might head to a Gwinnett County park to soak up the sun with some food, snacks, and of course, music! We’d hit up Slow Drag, one of my favorite events where they spin 70s music all night long. That era is close to my heart, so it’s always a good time—dancing, grooving, and just enjoying the energy. I also love Rum Punch Brunch, so that would be the closer to the week long trip. Of course, we’d spend some time walking the Beltline, people-watching, chatting, and exploring whatever spots catch our eye. And honestly, some of the best moments would probably be at home—cooking together, watching throwback movies or shows, and reminiscing about old times. Simple pleasures with good people always make the best memories.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people and moments that have shaped me and helped nurture my gifts, but first, I want to shout out my grandmother, “Bana”—one of the sweetest souls you could ever meet. She had a huge influence on my love for music, introducing me to artists and songs that still inspire me to this day. Even after her transition, I continue to feel her love and draw strength from her spirit. I also want to give love to my mother, who shows up to every single gig and performance. Her constant support keeps me going, and she’s been a major influence on my musical and vocal journey. I carry so much of what she taught me with me. There are countless others—friends, mentors, and communities—who have believed in me, supported me, and held space for me during pivotal moments. I may not be able to name everyone, but each and every one of them is appreciated more than words can express.
