Meet Delene Musielak, MD, FACP, FAAP: Physician, Speaker, International Best Selling Author, Health Coach & Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Delene Musielak, MD, FACP, FAAP and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Delene, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
Growing up I have always been a perfectionist with very high standards and expectations of myself. I remember if I got 98% on an exam, I would be frustrated about not getting 100%. My parents always had to remind me that it was still an A, and that I did do a great job! With that being said, I have always been very regimented. When I got home from school, I would have to get my homework done before doing anything else. If things didn’t go exactly the way I planned, it would really bother me and I felt like I didn’t do a good enough job. It’s a good thing I have awesome parents who supported me and reassured me. The benefit of these habits did help me through medical training very much though. It kept me focused and on point. However, after having my triplets, it was very difficult to make three babies stick to my schedule. I will say, they definitely had a routine, which was a saving grace; they feed and slept at the same time which did help my sanity. Although my triplets definitely got me slightly out of my old ways, what really did the trick of breaking me out of my “perfectionist and regimented” habits was becoming an entrepreneur. It has taught me that everything doesn’t have to be perfect and a puzzle can still be completed with different puzzle pieces being placed at different times. I have become so much more comfortable stepping out of that comfort zone of trying to have everything perfect and aligned in an order that I use to think was the only way. I have learned how to just put things and ideas out there and continuously improve them. I’m so glad that I learned the error of my ways, because if I had continued to strive for perfection, I would have not been an entrepreneur at this point. There’s always an idea to improve or a plan to change. So now I have learned that getting caught up with perfection can stall one’s progression. This girl has progressed!
What should our readers know about your business?
I started The Dr. Mom Show as a way to help other women in the world. My expertise as a dual-boarded Internist and Pediatrician, in addition to being a mom of triplets, allows me to bring so much to the table to share with others. I not only discuss health and wellness topics, but feature guests who have different diagnoses, or are an expert in that field. But that’s not all. The show also covers a ton of parenting and family hacks, which we all need, even myself – Dr. Dee – Mom of Three. Initially I started the show as something fun on YouTube. However, from there God has opened so many doors. The Dr. Mom Show is also now a podcast, and the show has allowed me to not only impact people, but to connect with individuals that I otherwise would not have been able to. Marketing was definitely not in my medical training curriculum, so that part has been the biggest obstacle for me, and I am a firm believer that people don’t know what you have to offer until they know. The only way people out there will know about me and what I have to offer is when my message gets out into the world. I have continued to try to learn about marketing the best I can and collaborate with those who can help me grow. The Dr. Mom Show offers a great combination of health and every day living information that everyone could benefit from. I continue to push forward with hard work and persevere to be the next Dr. Oz (female version, of course). As The Dr. Mom Show continues to grow, I ultimately would like to open a free clinic to offer healthcare services to those who are underserved. Another dream I’ve always had is having a platform for others to share their stories. As an International Best Selling author, it is such a great feeling to know that my story has impacted thousands of people’s lives through writing it. In 2020, I co-founded ALEA Publishing, LLC. We give such a personal touch with our publishing services so that people can turn their vision into their legacy. It has been such a fulfilling feeling to see the clients start with almost nothing, but by the end bring their story to life. One of the most difficult parts of the publishing company has been with people who personally know my family. They start pushing for cheaper prices. It makes it a very awkward situation. It’s a business and there should be a fair business deal just like anything else we do. However, as we continue to branch out, it has improved significantly. I have been featured in a multitude of media outlets including ABC News, The CW, Fox News, and KSDK News just to name a few. I have also been able to share my expertise with multiple publications in Thrive, Delux Magazine, STL Parent and West NewsMagazine.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would definitely have to go to the Atlanta Aquarium. Hands down, this is the best aquarium I have been to. Of course, we would have to check out a baseball game. The World of Coca Cola is a must so we could have an awesome afternoon of beverage tasting. We would have to eat breakfast at the Atlanta Breakfast Club at least once, and have dinner at Bone’s Restaurant. We would ride SkyView Atlanta and take a walk in Piedmont Park. Finally, we would enjoy the Atlanta’s skyline at Skyline Park.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out my husband, Matthew. He has been so supportive from day one. He is a surgeon who works hard, but even after a long day of operating, he comes home and is an amazing husband and a loving father. He helps with the laundry and the dishes, not to mention, he is the chef of our home. I feel so blessed that he enjoys cooking and finds it to be a way to unwind. I’m more of a baker (LOL). Matthew has supported me not only in my career as a physician, but as an author and entrepreneur. He definitely brings balance to me and all the hats I wear. It’s always nice to have another perspective from someone who you know loves you and cares about you. It’s difficult to find people who genuinely care about your success. But to get more personal, from the day we found out we were having triplets, he has been nothing but fantastic. He has been by my side from the time the three of them arrived in this world. As you could imagine, I needed quite some time to recuperate. He was by side 24/7 taking my pumped milk to the babies because I couldn’t get out of bed. He has completely been a hands-on father. Of course, most of all, I have to give him so much credit for always putting up with my silliness! I love this guy! Only God could have brought someone so special into my life.
